Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50 released

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting Corrine ;)

If at all possible, might the user in question try reinstalling 1.50 and if the issue persists, try unchecking and then re-checking Create right click context menu. in the Settings tab? I've seen this happen occasionally with previous versions of MBAM myself and this procedure generally fixes it.

The missing context menu is not a bug from MBAM but always has to do with other programs or Windows itselfs.

I had that same issue a few days before and after changing my AV the context menu suddently reapeared without changing

anything in MBAM.

Hi, wijllie.

Should you have the problem again, try the suggestion by exile360 to reinstall and then un-check/re-check Create right click context menu. in the Settings tab. It was that combination that solved the problem for the person at the other forum.

Thanks, exile360! Another happy user of MBAM!

You will be able to update the tool using the internal updater I believe. I can get back to you on that ;).

I would appreciate that. I use a write-protected USB key to prevent it from being infected so I would need to run it on a known clean system and get the EXE file then get it on my key. I have had to clean my usb key twice prior to using the one I have now.

I really wish they offered a tech version that would run directly from the key and not require installation. I could update before going onsite and clean with no chance of infection like I had until I got the Write protected key which are hard to come by these days.

Thanks for v1.50.... I also recommended this to a all of my customers and installed the new free version on a couple Custom Built Systems... I had no problem going from v1.50beta to full 1.50... Thanks...

I'm seeing scan times much longer, and more objects examined (from 2.5 minutes to about 9.5 minutes for a quick scan, and from 145k objects to almost 200k objects).

Would this be normal, or is there something I might want to exclude (TEMP folders for the internet?)

Thanks for any advice you can give. Installation went perfectly over 1.46, just curious on the longer scan times and more items examined. Just wanted to know if it was only me.

Take it and run,

Generally in our testing we've found version 1.50 to actually scan faster than previous versions, however system hardware plays a big part in that.

Please do the following to see if it helps:

Clear Temp Files Using ATF Cleaner:

  • Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close all open internet browser windows
  • Run ATF Cleaner by double clicking it.
  • Once the program opens, click the box next to Select All
    • Note: this will delete all cookies saved by sites that you have visited so if you need to keep any cookies for automatic logins etc then uncheck the Cookies option

[*]Once that's all set click on the Empty Selected button and it will remove the temporary files from your system.

[*]If you use Firefox or Opera browsers then click the appropriate button at the top of the program and delete the temp files from them as well following the same procedure.

Thank you for the link and the program, I removed all but cookies as per your instructions (thank you for those, too!). The scan remains at about the same speed, nine and a half minutes or so.

It's not an issue, I was wondering if anyone else were seeing it was all. The longer scan is WELL worth the protection MalwareBytes offers.

I do appreciate the help. If it gets faster, that will be a bonus, but no worries.

Thanks!

Amended: After I rebooted a second time and cleared everything but cookies again, the scan was down to just under 8 minutes.

Thanks again, I really do appreciate it!

The PC is only about 9 months old, so it SHOULD be fairly okay, but again, not a deal-breaker for what the program does for me.

Take it and run,

Yes you can ;)

Thanks. Did it! Updated to 1.50. One thing....never really understood 'Website Blocking' other than I see it blocks malicious sites....is this editable like a firewall...? I do not see in the gui where I can go to do it..or is it dependent on the database of Mbam? Wanted to ask that for a long time.

My quick scan times are about cut in half on Vista and XP, thank you very much.

When I ran update, the database version was updated then version 1.50 was downloaded and installed.

After the program update I restarted MBAM and ran update again, the database version was again updated to a later version. ;)

It would be nice if MBAM restarted after the program update is complete as I've seen in the past.

Thanks for your hard work and dedication.

Hi just updated to 1.50 via Update tab. I now have a message saying "Protection Disabled". When I click on the Enable Protection Module box I get the following message:

[openSCManager] Failed to perform desired action. Error code:5.

I have the paid for version and my Identity and licence key are shown on the about tab.

Having been using the Beta with no problems and am pleased to see no problems, on my system, with the release version of (paid) MBAMPro 1.50.. I love it!

That said, EULAlyzer only flagged one item of interest to me:

15.
Malwarebytes
reserves the right to designate specific additional content or features as requiring separate purchase of a separate subscription at any time and without notice to you, however, if you purchase a subscription that provides for specific updates, you will not pay any additional fee to receive those updates.

Can someone in Corporate (Marcin, ?) explain how that relates to, or affects, paid "individual" users with "lifetime" licenses?

I accepted the agreement (EULA) with no reservation but I *am* curious*..

Thank you in advance; I'll PM the link of this post to Marcin and am looking forward to his reply. Before I get beat up by anyone - I *love* MBAMPro 1.50 and use/have been using, the paid version since 1.43 or 1.44 when I became aware of the program. ;)

I may be wrong, but just based on reading that, it appears to me that item 15 is simply describing the free version vs the PRO version. To get the additional features of the PRO version (realtime protection, malicious website blocker, scheduler, access to certain command line parameters/switches etc) that it requires a subscription fee (the license cost for the PRO version) and that once it's paid, that you get version updates etc.

Thanks Sam; I never thought of it in that context. And what you said makes sense; Thanks! ;)

My mind is always going the other way; like if you guys came out with a version update that had "an additional feature" like, I dunno, it was suddenly able to reach out and smack the Malware writer across the chops, or similar, would #15 mean we'd have to pay extra to get that.. Or would it be part of the "Lifetime License?".. I know my example was silly, but I couldn't think fast enough to come up with a feasible addition. I wasn't just funning around to be an aggravation...

Thanks again,

~Steve
