Hi, there, Jean, and thank you for the warm welcome!!!
I re-ran HijackThis, checked the items you asked me to, and clicked on Fix. Rebooted my system. There were no MalwareBytes Antivirus updates. Here are the two logs you requested.

I re-ran HijackThis, checked the items you asked me to, and clicked on Fix. Rebooted my system. There were no MalwareBytes Antivirus updates. Here are the two logs you requested.

OK looks good. I would not run both A2 and Adaware active. In fact I wouldn't run Adaware at all. It's become a bloated resource hog and not nearly as well updated at A2 is. You need to update Java.
You are running an outdated and unsafe version of Java. You need to uninstall it via Add/Remove programs and delete the program file also. Then go here Java Update and install the correct version for your system. Choose the offline installation.
How is it running now?

Oh, boy, Jean, this was just the sort of recommendations/suggestions I was looking for!!! I can't tell you how appreciative and grateful I am. I've been noticing lately that system resources are a bit spare.
My computer is running well. I'll go update Java and make the other changes you recommended.
I'm going to be starting another thread called "Viruses in Tampa." I'm troubleshooting both my husband's computer and my laptop. I just didn't want to start a second thread until after this one was resolved.
I'll make sure I keep any follow-up questions about my computer on my thread and any questions about his computer on his thread.
Thank you, THANK YOU, thank you!!!

Okay, I deleted Ad-Aware, removed and reinstalled Java. I am now the proud owner of JRE Version (or Update?) 10.
Everything is looking *really* good, and I'm thrilled to have a squeaky clean registry and system!!! Thank you, Jean, for all your help. You made throwing a saddle on those ill-behaved trojans and reining 'em in a surprisingly painless process. (grin)
Guess we can close out this thread!

Good glad to help we are not done quite yet. Have you updated and scanned with MBAM again? Please do and if clean then proceed to this below.
We need to now reset a clean System Restore point. If you don't and you need to use System Restore you will reinfect yourself. Go to Start>Control Panel>System. Click on the System Restore tab and put a check in Turn off System Restore. Then click OK.
Now go to Start>Help and Support > Undo Changes to Your System or System Restore depending on the make of your PC. Click on what ever will open the System Restore box. You will see two options, Choose Create a System Restore Point. Give it a name like Clean Restore Point and today's date. Now if you need to use it you have it.
Many infections can be avoided with an added layer of prevention. All recommended programs are free and easy on system resources. You should install them as part of your protection arsenal. Keep MBAM and Spybot Search & Destroy and always immunize SBS&D when you update. You will also need at least one other scanning program Asquared or SuperAntiSpyware are good and there are several other excellent programs with free and paid versions. Read the overviews of what each program below does so you have an understanding of their importance and how to use.
A firewall and antivirus are also essential. The Windows firewall in XP and Vista is not sufficient.
Preform Windows Updates monthly on the second Tuesday or use automatic updates, and use your scanners weekly at the least. Always update before you scan.
Keep other software known for vulnerabilities updated also. Use the Secunia Inspector free scan to identify risks in outdated versions.

The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must. I use and recommend Online Armor Free
Also the full protection of MBAM is offered at a very low price, from the link in my signature.

Jean, I will work on this over the weekend. I'm a bit under the gun right now, not that taking control of my system(s) isn't a *very* high priority. I have a new infection/malware that has popped up an A2 scan. Trace.Registry.Remotely Anywhere Server Edition!A2 So I am going to start over at the beginning and rescan following your instructions.
A note of explanation, though. In the middle of troubleshooting my computer, I have had to install LogMeIn and reinstall Skype. I have a meeting with a consultant that requires I use these two software programs. I really thought I had successfully completed the tasks I needed to complete to sanitize & protect my machine, but I can see by your last post that I have NOT!!! I apologize if I have made more work for you by installing these programs, but I literally had no choice as the virtual meeting *has* to be on the machine you and I are troubleshooting here. My guess is that the installation/reinstallation of the two programs above is responsible for the new problems, as there are changes to the registry during the installation that I approved when prompted by Spybot.
I will start over again this weekend. There are no other programs I need to install. I will follow your instructions to the letter and purchase the programs you recommend. I'll be doing the same with my husband's computer (working on it this weekend) on the thread, "Viruses in Tampa."
Thank you again for your help. I really don't take it for granted.

I don't see an Edit, so I needed to add this. In the process of trying to set up web-cam communications, I have been trying to get QuickTime installed, so that is also a possible source of the malware/infections flagged by A2. That is a program/plugin I could wait to install. Or if it's better, I could install it before re-starting the troubleshooting process. Please advise.

The stuff I listed is free. If your getting infection notices then we are not done. Update MBAM, post that log and a new HJT log please.
