I had or still have the Antivirus Pro 2009 virus. I was able to download and install Malwarebytes while in safe mode but it could not update. I ran a scan in safemode and it found some things which I removed. The Antivirus Pro 2009 pop ups are gone but I can not load malwarebytes anylonger. I cannot even go to the malware bytes website. The liveupdate on the norton does not work either. There is still some kind of redirect when ever I try and access legitmate security sites. Also when I tried to go to the Malwarebytes site from MSN search some other kind of spyware scan started. It looked like windows but not like the Antivirus 2009 windows look alike. Something wanted to download but I did not let it. The computer with the problem is running Windows XP home. Is there a manual update file I can download to another computer and copy to a cd or flash drive to update the malwarebytes. I was going to reinstall malwarebytes by downloading to another computer and copying it over as well.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ahhhh!! Found this: http://www.gt500.org...es/database.jsp
(If you search: update database, you'll find this is a known problem.)
We did run it and it did seem to "release" mwb, spybot, etc., etc., and things are looking good SO FAR, but from what I have read elsewhere, it may not be a 100% fix, and reformat may be the only safe thing to do. Argh! Sounds like it's kinda like closing the fence around the coup AFTER the wolf has been inside...and possibly had babies.
Good luck to you, too!

Thanks I was able to download the update after I renamed the mwb.exe file. I scanned and everything seems to be working fine.
