PC not opening FF

Recommended Posts

Hi it is me chimpy I had to make a new account as my PC is having a lot of issues.

This morning I changed the settings on my router to WEP and then a few hours ago changed it back to WPA (though working out how to do this took time)

My PC was not connected to the net at this time as it disconnected when the router was changed.

But now on start up things are either totally unresponsive or taking up to 30 mins to open.

FF and Thunderbird take up to 30 mins, though Opera will take 10 mins, Open office likewise is taking ten mins.

Once it does open it is fine so I have no idea why it is taking so long for this, all I can think of is it is something to do with the router setting but that still would not prohibit FF at least trying to open.

I have scanned with MBAM and it found nothing.

Thank you.

hmmm ...

i do not see how a problem with the router would cause such lagged operation in opening a program .

have you tried booting up in the "safe" mode ?

does task manager show any processes consuming large amounts of cpu time/ram ?

have you made any recent changes to the comp ?

i take it that you have completely shut down the router and re-started it ?

you may be infected and it is not showing .

you might want to head over to the HJT section and start a new problem posting :

The only possible issue I can think of is that you may have had a shared file, folder, or printer to another computer that is no longer reachable which can cause a slow connection but that is typically a 45 second delay by default not minutes.

I would tend to agree that you may be either infected or have a hard drive that is failing.

Make sure you have backups of all of your data before proceeding to do anything as a hardware issue or malware/virus can cause data loss or corruption. Once you've verified your data is backed up then try running a Disk Check and if that does not help then seek help looking for Malware/Virus infection.

If you think you are infected, here are the steps needed to get your computer cleaned....

While it was "loading" for 30+ mins I opened the TM and nothing was in it. I decided I had had enough and did a system restore and that has fixed the issue. I dont think I am infected as it happened while just trying to get my PC back to recognise the router, I have a feeling that somewhere down the line I might have clicked something and changed something, I really have no idea, I don't have a shared folder as this is the only PC in the house and the DSi which I made the router WEP for was not on.

I think I might leave it and see what happens as it seems "fixed" for want of a better word.

If it was a virus would SR have fixed this? Or mask the symptoms?

How do I disc check again? I have a feeling I have done it wrong in the past.

How to Run Check Disk at Startup in Vista

Wouldn't hurt to post a DDS scan as well.

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt

Okay well that's not looking good. I'm guessing that the infection is still present and that is why we're having issues here. Since we don't work on detection removal of Malware in this forum please review your options below and have someone assist you with detection and removal of any malware.
