By default, Windows XP hides certain types of sensitive system files from view. For security purposes it is very advisable to show all files and folders. This way you can see any potentially harmful files that may have been unknowingly stored on your computer.

To change the setting goto My Computer > Control Panel > Folder Options > View > Check the option ‘Display the contents of system folders’. Then click Apply.
