Hi all,

I am having trouble with this tough Spyware Guard 2008 just can't go away. I updated my Malwarebytes and removed pretty much everything except this annyoing Windows Security Center Dialog at the taskbar tell me that my antivirus is not active.

I tried using Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware but both just can't do the job. I am really close to just format my PC but hoping there is another way.

I can help at the same time you help everyone with just a little work here .

Download and run HijackThis :

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_d.../HiJackThis.exe

Use the option to do an scan and save a logfile . Copy and paste that log into your next post .

That line should have been detected , odd that it was not . After we get through the next step I need for you to verify if it was in your first scan or not and that you do have MBAM 1.31 .

Download, unzip and run the attached file , it will make a folder called malware on your desktop . Zip and attach this folder here :

Hello Nosirrah,

Problem! The malware folder contained a file named "crjwlueozk.dll." After zip the file is 540kb and larger than the max single upload capacity. What should I do?

Do another HijackThis scan but this time do scan only and put a check in this box :

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Twain] C:\Documents and Settings\Howard Yang\Application Data\Twain\Twain.exe

Its a dead trace and no longer points to a file .

Update MBAM , scan again , reboot . Create and post a final HijackThis log , your malware should be gone .

After I placed a checked in the box of

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Twain] C:\Documents and Settings\Howard Yang\Application Data\Twain\Twain.exe

Do I need to fix check or not? Or just run Malwarebytes?

Never mind, the Malware is removed. I think.

Thank you for all your help, Nosirrah

Yes , click fix checked but that was only a trace of the infection that started this whole thing off .

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Twain] C:\Documents and Settings\Howard Yang\Application Data\Twain\Twain.exe

That file I sent you tried to capture that file but no one was home so that run entry points to nothing and is safe to delete .

I'm not an expert at this, but I've been working the exact same problem with the Spywareguard system tray icon, and came across a similar entry to the following:

O21 - SSODL: InternetConnection - {6580D3DF-7F97-416E-B6AE-7912C7CE8869} - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DLLs\crjwlueozk.dll

The dll was named differently, but path was the same. After I nix'd the entry via hijackthis, rebooted, no more Spywareguard in the system tray icon.

I checked the dll files, noted the creation date, and that date correlated with the infection date.

Again, I'm not an expert, but it seems this entry is very likely some (or all) of the problem when it comes to the system tray activity.

Edit: Actually, to be more precise, I initially changed the extension name of the dll, and left the registry entry. Upon reboot, the registry entry still ran, but with a "(file missing)" caveat. No icon in the system tray. Then I nixed the entry with hijackthis.
