[wadd3456]

I appear to have been infected with at least the Downloader.mdw trojan. Beyond that, Im not sure. My desktop computer is pretty much hosed when going online. Attached are the the activescan and mbam logs. Thanks!

NE ideas how to clean this sucker up?

Another update-

I ran a free antivirus program and it keeps finding a trojan vundo (whatever that is). The file location is @ c:\windows\system32\clbcatex32.dll

When booting in safemode it CONTINUES TO LOOP the message telling me to click yes for safemode or no to recover. I keep clicking yes and it keeps popping up the message every 10 seconds. In between it doing this I was able to use Process Explorer and kill explorer. Then I went into regedit and found the clbcatex32.dll file and removed that folder.

Unfortuantely it keeps coming back every time I reboot. Something else must be hidden in there? What the heck.

  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    
  • Select the Update tab
    
  • Click Update
• When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab
  
• Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply
  
  • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:

• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  
• It will create a HijackThis icon on your desktop.
  
• Once installed, it will launch HijackThis.
  
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply.
  
• You can delete the old version of HJT, located here: C:\Documents and Settings\2.4ghz of fury\Desktop\Virus and Adware Removal\HJT.exe

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

• Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  
• From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  
• JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  
• Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  
• A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then RESTART your computer


Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

* Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
* Double-click on the My Computer icon.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* After the new window appears select the View tab.
* Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
* Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
* Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
* Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
* Press the Apply button and then the OK button and exit My Computer.
* Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Please start HJT and do a Scan Only and place a check mark on the following entries

  • Select the Update tab
    
  • Click Update
• When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab
  
• Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply
  
  • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    
  • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Then RESTART your computer again and AFTER the restart run HJT scan and save log.

Post back new fresh MBAM and HJT logs.

You need to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 and update it to version 9
Older versions had code that was compromised to allow your system to get infected.

Thanks for helping me through this.

I removed old version of Java, but I am assumed you didnt want me to update to a new version since you didnt say so. Acrobat has been removed, as well as view point manager. I submitted the .dll file but noticed there are also .VIR and .VIR000 files with the same file name and date. Should I submit those as well? Should I try to delete any of these files (pending they actually let me)?

• Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    
  • Select the Update tab
    
  • Click Update
• When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab
  
• Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply
  
  • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:

The RESTART the computer again and AFTER the restart run HJT Scan and Save log and post back all NEW logs.

Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

Turn off System Restore

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.

Note 1: If you are running Windows XP SP2, you should upgrade to SP3.
Note 2: Users of Norton Internet Security 2008 should uninstall the software before they install Service Pack 3.
The security suite can then be reinstalled afterwards.

The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect your system. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must.
