The fact that your appinit key did not come back indicates that this is a permissions problem now , not a malware problem .

Please download and unzip the file attached to this post , you will get 2 files .

Copy subinacl into C:\windows\system32 .

Now double click fix , a short scan will happen .

Once the black box goes away run another MBAM and remove what it finds .

Hi,

First of all, thank you very much.

The MBAM ran clean atlast. No malware found. However, my IE7 still flashes and disappears. I reinstalled IE7, no effect. However, I keep getting the error message "Unable to install the IE updates".

I re-installed mozilla firefox. I am able to browse the web now. After 2 weeks, I am sending this message through my PC, logged on through FIREFOX. I am ran MBAM and HJT scans again. The log files are attached. Please help.

This looks like IE is damaged to the point that it cant be repaired as is .

Download a fresh copy of IE7 and ccleaner :

Install CCleaner .

Boot into safemode (tap F8 while rebooting about once a second , when the safemode menu pops up choose safemode , it will be tho top option) .
Log into your regular account , the screen will look very odd , this is normal and will only last till you reboot .
Once on your desktop navigate to and delete the following folder :

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

Now run CCleaner .
Click registry , scan for issues , fix selected issues , no , fix all selected issues , ok and then close , exit CCleaner .

Now double click the installer for IE7 and allow it to install . When it finishes allow windows to be rebooted and try windows updates again .

Hello, you should be able to download and run this batch file to repair the Windows Update issue.

[indent]fixwinupdates.bat[/indent]

This is ONLY for XP DO NOT run on Vista and you should only run it once. Running it again may cause issues and should not be needed.

Then run MBAM again and go to the UPDATE tab and update the program and do another Quick Scan and fix anything found.

Then visit the Microsoft Windows update site and get the Service Pack 3 and install it, and then go back and get ALL critical updates.
