I have SAS free edition installed great no spywear and I did Combo fix to make sure no infections.

I keep hearing Malewarebytes is so great but you cannot install it . I do not have spywear but it says
unable to register the DLL /OCX : create process failed code 2
system cannot find file specified.

If it is so great why will it not install and do I really need it with Norton IN ser 2008 and
Spywearblaster ?
I am computer illterate and it bugs me that it wll not install properly .
Any ideas or can anybody explain the problem ?
Thanks

Hi Littlefield.

Well MBAM has gained great popularity for it's high success rate in removing some of the most recent Malware that has been crippling computers around the World.

Do you need it? Well that's a decision you have to make, but using a single product whether it's SAS, MBAM, or others is not always the best solution. On any given day there is new Malware out that can bypass detection and cleaning for any product, but MBAM is one of the fastest at responding to these new threats.

Currently the product is based on a Visual Basic framework which has modules that it needs to install. It is rare but does happen that seemingly clean systems just won't install it. With millions of installed installations of MBAM the failure rate for installations is extremely small. I only know of maybe a couple dozen users, so you can do the math on the failure rate compared to millions of successful installs.

If you're willing to work with me and do some testing I'm sure we can get MBAM to install on your system, but it's up to you. If you're interested please reply and/or send me a PM and I'll be glad to work with you on it.

Cheers.

Hello,

First of all, you should not ever be running Combofix without guidance of a trained helper!
Secondly, the fail to install must have to do with something unique about what is or is not on this system.
Third, MBAM by far far & away is the better anti-malware tool. I have yet to see SAS remove the infections of the many cases I have helped (beyond cookies, which do not count). It has always taken additional tools.
I have yet to see SAS remove the range of malwares that MBAM can.

You ought to try temporarily disabling Norton Internet Security (appears that's what this is running) and then retry the install of MBAM.

Lastly, if your pc has signs of infections, you need to get guided help.
If so, see the very topmost notes at top of the following sub-forum and do the steps, and create a New topic there

Thanks for the quick response . I did not mean my tone to suggest Malwarebytes is an inferior product . It just irritated me when I tried to install I got that message and I had to abort .
When I tried to restart my computer I got message windows cannot find the C program and I hit OK and my boot worked ok .
I restarted again and this did not come up.
I am gussing it is a registery issue but I am pretty computer illiterate so I am just guessing.
Yes I would apprecate you helping me .
The most likely cause of a failed installation with an error code of 2 is that your AntiVirus application basically intercepted it and deleted or quarantined some of the MBAM files. MBAM has a few dozen files it installs and a couple of which are tools that are used to basically kill other unwanted software, but your Antivirus isn't paying attention to the fact that you manually are installing this and WANT it to install. It sees them as dangerous files (which they could be, since Malware writers use similar code but for evil purposes) and deletes them or quarantines them.

You need to shut down and disable your Antivirus, but depending on what one you have it may be more difficult than it seems because most of them have now had to enable much more strict code to try and prevent it from being disabled in the first place, which often is what Malware tries to do to it. Once it is disabled then you need to download a NEW, fresh copy of mbam-setup.exe and try installing it again. Most Antivirus software has a log you can review to see that it did remove the MBAM files, or you may be able to see it in the Event Logs using EVENTVWR

Please give that a try and let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance.
Thanks so much for your help .
You can mark this solved as I did not have my regsvr32 file and MB was not installing the dll file .
I probably said that wrong :D Still amazed Lightroom 2 installed without it smooth as silk . That dial a fix pointed it out.
It is now installed :D

Good, glad to hear it. Error 2 means "The system cannot find the file specified"
