Hi I am new to this forum and have got your name from malwarebytes anti-malware Help
We have recently had 2 computers infected with Antivirus Pro 2009 believed to have been received via MSN messages from friends
Following a Link on Bleeping computers, I down loaded malwarebytes anti-malware program. On the second computer I recognised the message boxes that were appearing and did not open any links. I downloaded and ran the program which worked extremely finding well over 100 objects that it has cleared up and the computer is running well.
However on the first computer one of the links to the Antivirus pro 2009 was accessed before it was realised that it was a virus. I have tried to run the program but initially I could not install the Mbam setup. However following a suggestion from one of the guys at Bleeping to change the name, I managed to get it to go through the install process until it reached the end. The update and Launch buttons were both checked and I clicked the finish button. At that point it stopped working. After 15 mins I decided to reboot the machine and try to run the program from the Desktop icon. I got an egg timer for a few seconds then nothing.
The computer is running XP and free AVG 8. The AVG 8 has stopped working and cannot be updated.
Also each time I try to connect to an Anti virus Web site, I get a message Internet explorer cannot display the webpage.
I am sending this from a non infected machine.
Thanks for any suggestions
Barney

Hello Barney and welcome to MalwareBytes forums,
You need to get guided help. If you've gotten guided help at BleepingComputer or another HijackThis forum, please stay with them. If you have not, and you have only been reading articles, then,
If so, see the very topmost notes at top of the following sub-forum and do the steps, and create a New topic there

The malware of the family Antivirus Pro (there are many variants) often arrive with other pests, and like your case, will have blocked access to some sites and also to some tools, like MBAM.
I urge you, if you have no guided help, and barring that this is a corporate system (in which case you should get a hold of your company's IT support)..... create a New Topic in HijackThis sub-forum.
