Hello

Am trying to fix a pc that is very slow and the hard drive is continuously spinning, pc owner asked that none of his programs be removed if possible. I have no idea where to start, any help would be greatly appreciated. Hard drive does stop after about 10 minutes.

Thanks, Marcos

Start here please and if Malware free then we can work from there.

Hello and Welcome to Malwarebytes.org

Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now?

Someone will be happy to assist you further with cleaning your system if required

During this scan and cleanup process you should not install any other software unless requested to do so.

Hi

Well I said before that the hard drive stopeed after 10-15 minutes, well i ran MBAM once and I was able to run AntiVir once and they each cleaned some stuff out. But now its worse, after I rebooted now the hard drive does not stop and if I double click on an icon it will respond after like 5-10 minutes, so I can't even download HiJackThis, I will try my best though to d/l. Will run MBAM, AntiVir and HiJackThis, mb. Then if I can will post my MBAM, and my HiJackThis logs.
In the HiJackThis forum. thznks for reading.

How old is this computer? Are there tons of popups or is the computer just slow?

Have you deleted the temp files on the system?
Does the hard drive make any loud noises?

The computer is about 6-8 years old, there are no popups, its just take forever to open a window to open an icon and a virus scan take over 4 hours, so I definitely have to work from safe mode and or do boot scans for right now. I am going to clean out my temp files manually using the run command %temp%.
Yes the hard drive is continously spinning and the access light is always on when you hear it.
Thanks Marcos

Quick question is it okay to delete hidden temp files also?

Hi again

Only 1 file I could not delete in temp files, says it's being used but I closed all other applications, name of file is etilqs_J5htivw6I2DqaRsqCJqX and its properties is the same as it's name.

Well the hard drive could be on it's last legs and the cause of slowness.

You can use MSCONFIG and start the system in a Diagnostic Startup mode which should stop most items from running and speed it up some for further analysis.

Have you ran a CHKDSK on the drive?

When replying please use the ADDREPLY button and not the REPLY button. Thanks.
