the setup shortcut is still on my desktop, and it said all related files would be deleted

Setup shortcuts won't delete itself automatically, so you have to delete that one manually. Just rightclick it and select to delete.

Good to hear that uninstalling Zonealarm solved your problem. There are many issues with Zonealarm, especially on Vista + the fact that many people still don't know how to configure a 3rd partt Firewall properly. So that's why I suspected Zonealarm in the first place

should I try to configure Zone Alarm or just get rid of it?

I've not had a problem with it until there latest version?

Well, if you know how to configure it properly, then reinstall it again. If still the same problems with it, then - or use the Windows Firewall (since most have a router + firewall in it already, so that combination is great as well) - or replace it with another 3rd party Firewall.
