To be perfectly honest, this is driving me nuts. I've had to take care of some annoying problems on my computer before, but right now I'm stumped like I've never been before. I can't seem to find much helpful "do this and it's done, works every time" info on the internet in regards to this, and it even took me close to a week to even identify what was causing my browser redirects.

I did, however, find some older posts here that related to my exact problem. Sadly, I tried to follow the fix steps, and have discovered that it just won't be the same for me. So instead, I downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and HiJackThis. Here are the logs, from both.

I'm at a pretty serious loss for what to do, and I can tell my computer is far from in ideal condition. This all seemed to have started when I let my roommate/best friend use my computer at his own leisure.

First, I need you to copy this file C:\WINDOWS\system32\camoc.dll as camoc.bad.file and attach it to this thread.

Second, I'd like for you to check this line in Hijackthis:

Make absolutely sure Internet explorer is NOT running before you do either of these.

Please let me know your results and we'll go from there.

I did a second HiJackThis scan, made sure Internet Explorer was not running (watched on Windows Task Manager, and checked the log to make sure IExplorer didn't show up), and it wasn't. The post is still there. Log to follow.

I reported the error the first time, closed IExplorer, and ran it again. This is the second log.

Certainly looks much better now. I am checking out the file you sent, and it's a Trojan.bho variant. Nothing too specutacular, but it could be interfering with your web browsing, and possibly re-generating those registry keys.

It may also be a permissions issue as well.

Okay, What I'd like for you to do is the following...
Make sure Internet Explorer closed before you proceed.

I want you to open Hijackthis, hit Scan and place a check mark beside this:

No Biggie, I've already submitted new defs that should resolve this. So, in the morning, update MBAM and scan again, check everything it finds, allow it to remove all of it, reboot. Scan again, and provide the logfile from this scan.

Basically there are 3 parts that need to be downloaded from these links:

1. Sysclean Package
2. Virus Pattern Files
3. Spyware Pattern Files

• As an example on 2008-10-17 the files to download are: sysclean.com | lpt605.zip | ssapiptn697.zip
• NOTE! These file names are examples and you must visit Trend Micro for the very latest files which may have different names.
• Create a brand new folder to copy these files to.
• As an example: C:\DCE
• Then open each of the zipped archive files and copy their contents to C:\DCE
• Copy the file sysclean.com to the new folder C:\DCE as well.
• Double-click on the file sysclean.com that is in the C:\DCE folder and follow the on-screen instructions.
  
  After doing all of this, please post back your results, including the log file sysclean.log that will be left behind by sysclean.

• This self-extracting archive is a stand-alone fix package that incorporates the Trend Micro VSAPI Malware and Spyware scanning engines as well as the Trend Micro Damage Cleanup Engine and Template.
  This tool supports the following features:
  o Terminate all detected malware/spyware instances in memory
  o Remove malware/spyware registry entries
  o Remove malware/spyware entries from system files
  o Scan for and delete all detected malware/spyware copies in all local drives

How To Use Compressed (Zipped) Folders in Windows XP
Compress and uncompress files (zip files) in Vista

I'd like for you to follow the instructions found http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php and let me know your results. Do you have your Windows CD handy?

What I do is I scan, fix, reboot, then scan again to see what it shows up with. I post the second log (just to see what it comes up with) and go from there.

I'm gonna check the site that you linked me out, and see what happens when I use it.
