My kids PC got infected with Darksma and PoserTM, while we had CA Security Suite running.
Had a very difficult time getting rid of them, until we used Malwarebytes, and it seemed to work like a charm. Doesn't come back. (THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!)
Then installed NIS2009 and it scanned out clean (it found nothing after Malwarebytes had already been ran which cleared a bunch of stuff)
BUT, here is the kicker. When we first put in the NIS2009 disk, and then clicked on the "INSTALL" button from the autoplay menu, it tried to do something with the printer, and it wouldn't install. That made absolutely no sense. So I just started the installation from explorer instead.
Sooo, what I'm wondering is (1) whether or not the PC is truly infection free now, and (2) even it's not infected, how much could have gotten hosed up while it was infected. Darksma and PoserTM were not the only infections found, but they were the most stubborn to get rid of and seemed the most serious.
Is it safe for us to try using this PC again? It's on the same router as our other 2 PCs, and I don't want them getting infected somehow. What could have caused the bizarre behavior when we put in the NIS2009 disk? Thanks !
