Malwarebytes Forum > Computer Help > Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs
JanMary
Hi,
I was asked to move my question to HJT forum, which was "Do I leave the Trojan agent quarantined in quarantine or remove it....if removed will it remove the Windows Host file it was in?"

After the quarantine, the problem with the color bands across whatever screen I was on, stopped for a day, then started again. I ran another Marwarbytes scan which showed no problems, but the color bands were still blocking. So I ran a HouseCall scan which showed some grayware cookies, which I eliminated.

Later, someone responded to the question I had posted to the forum (above), saying: "It depends on what it is...send us the log...."

When I tried to enter Malwarebytes to access the log, several error messages popped up on top of each other before I could write the numbers down, and suddenly the screen went blue with white writing and it said "memory being deleted" or something like that....I was in a panic, being new to computers. The screen stayed blue then said to contact the administrator....and I couldn't access anything. I shut off the computer then later rebooted, and all was well...the bands were gone. However I cannot access Malwarebytes....when I click on it the error messages appear.

So, my question now is, should I uninstall Malwarebytes, and reinstall?
and Is it possible though quarantined, the Trojan was still able to cause disturbance?
I'm at a loss.....please advise! Please keep answers very simple...I'm very new and don't understand much.

Hi,

Not sure with what you are exactly dealing, but it does sound bad.
Please back up your important data first while you can still access your Windows. Reason is because you may be dealing with one of these Trojans that have the functionality to kill your OS.
Read this article for more info: When a Bot master goes mad - Kill the OS

Then,

* Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Also, what exact error messages do you get when you execute malwarebytes?
