So in a nutshell My computer boots up fine and I am able to send and receive emails with Microsoft Outlook but can't access the internet. My internet service is working as I am able to use my other PC.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you

Hi,

For your Internet, it's because there's a proxy set:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.

Then, * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

After unchecking "use a proxy server" I am now able to access the internet.

Was there anything in my logs that requires me to use ComboFix?

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Start Hijackthis and check and fix next entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7171
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;<local>

Then, navigate to and delete the following folder:

c:\windows\system32\796525

Then, download this attachement, Click to view attachment
unzip it and doubleclick "restoredefaultbe.reg" in order to let it merge into the registry.

Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

You got it! Same thing happened to my neighbor across the hall.
After MBAM quarantined the the nasties, connection established but no browser connections.
After fixing the proxy settings in IE, it was necessary to do the same in Firefox.
The bastards are sneaky, but not sneaky enough!
miekiemoes
Yes, it's because the malware has set a proxy, so when a scanners removes the malicious files, the proxy settings are still present.
That's why you should fix it manually smile.gif

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Just check and fix next leftover in HijackThis:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Then, Update your Sun Java, because previous versions are vulnerable:
Updating Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it:
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:
Glad I could help. smile.gif

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

Sir,

I have the same issue, which I posted in another thread with logs. Should I follow this same procedure?
