Full Version: MBAM 1.38 always downloads the latest database version?

Is this a bug? Since updating to 1.38, MBAM keeps downloading the latest database version, even if I already have it. I checked for updates, and after downloading, MBAM told me "the database has been successfully updated from version 2299 to version 2299." To verify the problem, I closed the program, opened it again, and checked for updates again. Same thing.

Everything appears to be back to normal now. smile.gif

Yup, the update loop issue usually gets fixed once a new database is released, which happens quite frequently smile.gif .

Two computers: First one -- just installed the latest v. 1.38, latest DB v. 2301. When "exiting" the program it should minimize to my Windows system tray as it always has before. Now it doesn't. I have to go to the start menu, find Anti-Malware, open it up; and yes, protection is on, yes, I rebooted, twice. It's just no longer getting minimized to the system tray upon clicking "exit." This happens on my WinXP Pro, SP3 PC.

I have also installed 1.38, DB 2301 on a different computer, WinXP Home, SP3, and everything is still working normally. I'm also using the same software firewall w/antivirus on both, so that shouldn't be an issue. Not sure what else to try other than uninstall and reinstall. I've also done the "collect information" thing, told it to save the .txt file, but nothing gets saved, so I can't attach anything for your reading enjoyment.

Thanks for any pointers ......

Greetings and welcome smile.gif .

I know you said protection is on, but did you click the Protection tab and click the Start Protection button as well as check the box next to Start with Windows? The reason I ask is because MBAM doesn't actually minimize to the tray like some other security programs do. The M you normally see in the tray is a completely separate process from the scanner. You can tell because if protection is running and the scanner window is also open you should see 3 MBAM processes in your task manager (accessed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC on your keyboard):
  • mbam.exe This is the scanner interface where you can change settings and perform scans
  • mbamservice.exe This is the service that hosts MBAM's realtime driver
  • mbamgui.exe This is the tray application that shows the red box with the white M while protection is turned on and running

Greetings and welcome smile.gif .

Thanks! I realized just after posting that I needed to do a little more searching in the forums and found the steps suggested to uninstall, run the MBAM cleaner, then reinstall. I did and all is well again, yippee! Thanks so much for your quick response. I have 3 licenses and they're worth every penny and more. Love the product!
