Hi,

I downloaded and installed Malewarebytes’ Anti-Malware (the free version) a couple of months ago, and have used it successfully a couple of times since then. I also have Webroot Antivirus with Antispyware. However, today, when Webroot ran a routine scan, it found 2 maximum level threat viruses that I was unaware of (Troj/Wimad-O and Mal/Generic-A) and when I tried to install updates for MBAM, I got a runtime error that forced me to close the program. I tried doing a system restore to before I attempted to download the MBAM update, I tried removing MBAM from my computer, using CCleaner to remove all traces of it, and then installing it again. But I’m still getting the Runtime Error, and am unable to even start MBAM. Can anyone offer me advice on how to get MBAM working again?

EDIT: Lets try the instructions in Post # 4 below 1st. please....

Tenaya hold on please,

It slipped my mind that Webroot Antivirus is a program, lets address the runtime issue please, don't follow the instructions in Post #2 just yet...

Try this fix:

If you have been having the "C++ runtime-error" crashes with 1.39, please download a hotfix version of mbam.exe from here:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/~marcin/mbam.exe

Drop this version into the C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware directory, and overwrite the previous copy of mbam.exe. Then please make sure MBAM now runs correctly.

Please post back after the runtime error fix above, and keep us advised of how it went... regards
Tenaya
Wow, that was fast. smile.gif
It's running now, alright. Should I try again to download updates?
yardbird
Of course, watch the pc for errors, and reply back with what they were if any?
Tenaya
Okay, I successfully downloaded updates for MBAM and am now running a full scan. Is there anything else that you would recommend I do until the scan is complete? Thank you very much!
yardbird
I should have told you to run a quick scan, but when the scan is over please report back with any issues or errors...basically let me know overall how it went? ..please..thx...
yardbird
Tenaya you can Abort the scan & exit out of Malwarebytes please. I sent a PM to an expert about the Webroot program you have... I was instructed to send you to the HiJackLog Forum, so they can study your logs & get you fixed up. Please follow these instructions below: any questions?

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green
If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.
  1. Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now?
  2. If needed please post your logs in a NEW topic here: Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs
  3. When posting logs please do not use any Quote, Code, or other tags. Please copy/paste directly into your post and do not attach files unless requested.

  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review

  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.

Okay, thanks. I’m running the quick scan in MBAM now. Since I already just ran a full scan in my Webroot antivirus, I’ll save the MBA log once the scan is complete, follow the instructions for HijackThis and head over to the other forum.

I hadn’t noticed any malware symptoms, but since Webroot had found those two viruses on my computer, I really appreciate the help in playing this safe, given the advice, “Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs.”

I know there’s some kind of malware out there called “Mebroot”, but Webroot Antivirus is a legitimate program that my father bought for me for $40 at Best Buy.

Now that your in the HJK forum. when your almost done & ready to say goodbye over in that forum. Post the question, is the name of my software rogue or real? They will be more than glad to answer you. I'm sending you a PM in 1 min. regards...

I had to work on my spelling a lot when I started posting in forums several years ago, I am still working on it.
