Sept. 16, 2009: I get error code 715 (2,0) "The system cannot find the file specified"
when I try to open the malwarebytes program.

Sunday Sept. 13, Monday Sept. 14, when I attempted to update malwarebytes, it appears to download
but AVG 8.5 free version quarantines the download: mbam - setup.exe

1. Windows XP - recently updated to Internet Explorer 8 with AVG being the only AV
software ever installed on the machine.
2. Currently using AVG 8.5 free version 8.5.409 - virus db 270.13.80/2349
and recently purchased AVG Identity Protection.
3. Other protection software installed:
Zone Alarm free firewall - version 8.0.298.000
Windows Firewall (disabled)
Spyware Blaster
Malwarebytes version 1.40
Windows Defender
CCleaner version 2.03.532

Greetings and welcome gmac smile.gif .

The problem you're having is caused by a false positive by AVG. It is a known issue and they are working to resolve it. Please see this post for details. Once AVG fixes the problem you should be able to update AVG and then follow the instructions here to get Malwarebytes' up and running again. Also be sure to add the following files to the trusted zone for both AVG and Zone Alarm:
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

I hope I've been helpful. If you need anything else or have any questions please post.

Thanks smile.gif .
