I never thought I would see this, but then I took 2 notebooks apart & saw what's in them. Quality parts are null!

The article had nothing to do with the quality of parts, but I'm inclined to agree, most OEM notebooks have the cheapest parts in them. What they're talking about is the small size and low performance of netbooks. They aren't designed for everyday computing, they're a step smaller than a notebook but a step bigger than the UMPC's (handhelds like the good old Sony UX and OQO). They're basically internet machines designed for portability (hence the name netbooks wink.gif ). Many people don't understand this and think it's just a smaller notebook, but it's incorrect. If you want small size and decent capabilities go with a slightly larger (and much more expensive) 12-13 inch notebook. Sony makes some nice ones and HP has some decent 14" books that aren't too bad at all smile.gif .

It seems these are going to be not much more than a "pen and paper" notebook -
Just designed for writing a few notes and doing your homework for school - Then just a download to the teachers main computer ??
At the prices they just want a quick turnover -

Yep, these are PC's for people that basically just surf the net and do very basic computing tasks on the go. They're a niche product and considering how most PC users use their computers these days (FaceBook, MySpace, email, chat, web surfing, YouTube etc) it fits the bill nicely. It's bigger and more functional than a web enabled cell phone but not as big or clunky as a full sized notebook. It's great for the users that need such product, but for those of us who do more with our PC's other products would be more functional.
