Hello Marcin
I like it, the shape, colors and the teeth does catch the eye. Its has that hungry look for all you can eat malware buffet. Nice job.

Hi Marcin,
Honestly, i dislike it because this icon reminds me some kind of video game ( even if i'm a gamer) and will, IMO, badly desserve your product.
One opinion amongst many others .....

I have to say do not like it. It isn't serious enough, I guess is the best way to say how it impacts me with first look. A bit cartoonish. I really like the looks of the tray icon now. Not sure why you want to change that. The cougar is well associated with the site and the program IMO. Kind of like Scotty and WinPatrol, I was among those asking for the old icon there too.

Pacman here we come! In all honesty, I dislike it too. Doesnt do MBAM any good. However they are clear and whoever made them is good.

Hi,
Andy is right, my post was not offending but my thought was that a security product could not be symbolized by something childish (no offense at all to the artist )

Well, unfortunately nobody came forward with a serious icon or any suggestions for that matter. I personally like it and hope it will not discourage anybody using it for this silly reason. The current icon looks like a pile of brown ... well, use your imagination.

I don't intend to criticize the art work either, it's good. The old icon is better IMO. It is the head of a growling cat. PacMan does come to mind with this one. LOL Can we have a choice?

I wish I was able to create one.
but i'm just not good at that.
A suggestion though, a "front" view of a cougar's head (or a wolf's) might be an idea for a new icon.
Maybe growling too.
Just a thought.

AN idea (for either icon as I actually kinda like the proposed replacement icon)
How about having some graphic artiste inserting the word "Malware" inside the icon's mouth (whether it be a revamped feline snarling or the new proposed icon)?
That would make it a bit better, IMO.

I like the current blue banner one in Marcin's signature. Add the product name there. The brown-orange version for RogueRemover.

I don't think a photo of a part of an animal's head works well as an icon (it doesn't follow the icon guidelines of XP or Vista icons, and looks out of place in either of the operating systems in my opinion).

I personally like the old icon. The new one reminds me of Pac-Man. It's a good icon, just not for an anti-malware program.
RubbeR DuckY
Mar 14 2008, 02:23 AM
Unfortunately I think I will stick with the current graphics artist

. He will make a better version and I will show everybody again. Personally, I want to stray away from the lion as it does not make for a good icon.
Ruby
Mar 14 2008, 03:26 AM
The symbol of lion stands for the king of the animals which eats up every malware, so what is wrong with this icon?
The "Pacman"-Icon is nice, but it's not impressive for a serious anti-malware program. Everybody would think it's a new game...

Mar 14 2008, 06:14 AM
I'd have to go with the majority on this one, it looks to be totally off the mark as it does not represent anything remotely suggestive to security. Looks more like a vid game icon than anything else.
While the quality may well be good, I don't think it fits any theme that one could relate to on a malware level.

the old one doesn't do a lot but the new one even though bright & attractive looks too pac man ish & gives the wrong impression
I don't think an animals head fits right either but it does need something but I don't know what

If the present logo is considered too brown, we could try the same image but the of a polar bear or something like the one I've added here...
JeanInMontana
Mar 14 2008, 07:15 PM
That's interesting Fred. If brown is the only issue and from the post about MS requirements its not, the color could be changed. I have it in my head MBAM has a growling cat behind it. LOL I like that.

Click to view attachmentWell between the two I would go for the second one. a bit better for a security app. The first one was a nice icon, just not really fit for MBAM I think.
Still like the idea of a front view instead of a side view of some sort of vicious animal growling though. (with a little color)

This one is a step in the right direction for sure. The globe fits more along the line of the product, meaning a couple of things, your product is global, especially since you seem to have found enough people to translate stuff into every single language on the planet, and of course the 'global' aspect of the system cleaning the tool does.
I'm not sure about the jaws\teeth thing tho, IMHO, it still appears gamish. I'm just not sure what would go with the global theme.
How about instead of having teeth, perhaps an overlay of a scanner, with the sweeping motion passing over the globe? Just another option.
I'm all for keeping an open mind, but I think you need to give the logo a more 'professional' look. All the other graphics on the app look great.
You need to keep in mind that the logo is going to be the very first thing people see, so it needs to scream what the app is and catch peoples eyes. It may catch eyes now, but I don't think it does your software justice.

The globe with an overlay of a scanner sweeping across is a good idea.
Gimpguy2000
Mar 16 2008, 12:13 AM
The globe looks great and all but as your software grows, you may want more serious side. I threw an example in for kicks but either way, the globe with teeth is alright. I don't know if MBAM will be taken as serious with that icon or not, depends.

Of course the app speaks for itself though, if it's good, likely no one will care if the icon is serious or not. In
my opinion only, as MB grows, or anyone who creates software, you need to come up with a theme that works for all your software, can be different but at the same time, link back to a definite theme at MB. I don't know if I explained that correctly or not.
Cheers,
Paul

That being the case, you need to direct the artist to what you want. If the logo you presented was in the range of your description, then fine, if not they need to try again. Altho, regardless, I'd suggest you direct them to give it another go, unless you really like the teeth icon, after all it is your tool, lol.

The rounded one is alright too but I believe Marcin didn't want to deal with transparency. I don't know what it's like to code in an icon with transparency but from what I gather from others who implement icons into their software, it's obviously much easier without.
cheers,
Paul

Yer the second globe and the square are better then the first although i seriously have no problem with the current one. The more professional it looks the better. My personal favorite icons are those of Trustware, Eset,Counterspy and the old Cyberhawk. Im glad your involving your users in the pick of an icon, somethingh Nick (SAS) should have done long ago. Silly cheapo bugger ( tray icon).
