Once again my icons have disappeared, happened after a windows update, and are now not visible.
Did a complete search with malwarebyte but it didn't find anything. Tried to reuse a regfile that helped me with another time but no luck there

Why do they disappear.
AdvancedSetup
check on the PROPERTIES of the Taskbar and Start Menu, there is an option to Hide inactive icons which may be on.

That doesn't help. Even my active icons don't appear.

Assuming you're not infected with something again please try this.

Browse to this location C:\Documents and Settings\your account name\Local Settings\Application Data
Then find and delete this file: IconCache.db

Then reboot your computer. If that does not correct it then you may want to initiate another MBAM/HJT scanning in the HJT forum so that we can make sure you're not infected again with something.

So are ALL icons on Desktop and Quick Launch now missing?

Have you tried a Right Click on the Desktop "Show Desktop Icons" ?

Thanks they have now reappeared, but do you know why it keeps happening
AdvancedSetup
Nope, don't have a clue. Maybe someone else turning them off when you're not looking to play a joke on you.

Nothing I've ever heard of happening consistently as you explain, but glad you got them back.
Martin-P
Weird

Each time I restart my computer the icons dissapear, but returns each time I remove the Iconcash.db and restart once again
AdvancedSetup
Video card driver update needed maybe?
Martin-P
Is that the same as the graphic card
AdvancedSetup
Yes it is.
