Hi there.

Noob to MBAM but not to computing/removing anti-spyware/malware, etc.

This is my second time running the program on this clients laptop and am doing so in Safe Mode w/networking because the he said it shutdown and restarted unexpectedly...

After running a sample HJT, then cleaning, I started MBAM and tried to update (using Vista Home Premium 32-bit on an HP dv6500), it first told me it couldn't connect to the Internet. After three tries, the program updated on its own and asked me to close so it could reinstall the latest update.

I did so, but the program didn't re-open. When I tied clicking the shortcut, the program said it was unable to load the database--I tried three times (the magic number ;->) and it downloaded the files and opened up.

I ran the scan and it hiccuped at about 20000 files showing 1 infection and throwing up the screen saying to contact Anti-Malware Support Team regarding Error Code 731 (0, 9). In fact, the screen was repeated behind the first when I hit the first "OK."

It's still scanning 148090 files, 30 minutes 42 seconds with only the 1 infection so I'll letcha know what if anything comes up as "infected" or if it's a false poz.

Thanks guys!
Cheers,

Well, the scan's done and guess what? It doesn't show ANY files as infected....
I'm confused.

So, I thought I'd try to get the 'developer's scan' view of what occurred (as when false positives occur), started run > mbam.exe /developer and immediately got another error: "SwissArmy failed to initialize, Error Code 0."

Although that scan's still running, I'm now of the mind that it, too, will be bogus. What gives??

Thanks again,
d

Welcome to the forum. SwissArmy is one of the drivers MBAM uses in it's scans/removals so if it isn't loading that could be a problem. Since you're on Vista try uninstalling MBAM, reboot and then reinstall by right clicking the installer and clicking Run as administrator to see if that helps. Also, if you're running in safe mode it could be blocking MBAM's drivers from loading as safe mode boots with minimal drivers/services.
