Installer error - version upgrade - log in as administrator

Recommended Posts

This is intended as suggested how-tos for curing those particular few cases with this specific issue when upgrading from an older Anti-Malware program version to the new one.

A couple of sample screenshots of the message when the issue happens are attached below.

Just some starter suggestions:

First suggestion:  If you have already an installed version of the Anti-Malware, please be sure to have OFF the self-protection setting.

In version 2, click Settings icon >> then click Advanced Settings button.

There un-check the Enable self-protection module.   Then close the window.  Then jump down and start with step A below.

First, let's shutdown the realtime Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Go to the desktop Taskbar. See the blue-color MBAM icon in the notification area.
Do a Right-click on it with your mouse, and select EXIT.

Next,  Download and SAVE to your system the latest  version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from This link

click the Donwload button to begin the actual download and ( again ) be sure to Save.

Now run the setup:
Do a Right-click on mbam-setup-2.2.1.1043exe and select *Run as Administrator* and allow to run.
Answer YES when prompted by User Account Control ( Windows ).

IF on Windows XP then simply double-click  mbam-setup-2.2.1.1043.exe   to get the setup started.

Have lots of patience as the Setup runs. Do not worry if it seems to be doing nothing. It takes a couple or so minutes for it to do its thing and to begin showing the progress in the progress bar.

If no success with this method, please see this other section.

NOTE:
I would suggest that when the install is completed, that you do one more Logoff >> Restart Windows so that all is finalized to storage.

Other notes:

Please be very very sure that Windows User Account Control is on.
For Windows 7

Go to Control Panel>> All Control Panel Items >>User Accounts
Click on Change User account control settings
Also see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/user-account-control

For Windows 8

See http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5509-user-account-control-uac-change-settings-windows-8-a.html

For Vista   http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-or-off

For XP systems only:  You can use this page as a guide to do that for XP
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

You cannot be logged in with a Windows-login-user-account that is a Limited user.
You may also run into issues if logged in as a standard user.

If the prior procedure did not work, then you may do another install attempt using the command-prompt window of the Windows o.s.

See and follow this to Create an "Elevated Command Prompt" Shortcut
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3718-elevated-command-prompt-shortcut.html

Be sure you have that shortcut created on the Desktop.
Be sure that our setup exe  is saved and in place on the DESKTOP.

double-click the "shortcut for the elevated command prompt".

at the Command prompt, type in each one of these lines and press ENTER-key after each one

cd \

cd %userprofile%\desktop

mbam-setup-2.2.1.1043.exe

NOTE: There is one space after "CD" in the first 2 lines above.

If all A, B & C do not result in a good install, please use the MBAM clean install 2X procedure   on our forum.

NOTE:  After the new install is finished, I would recommend a Windows shutdown, wait for 30-40 seconds, then restart the system.

This will really insure that all is completely finalized to the HDD  (  disk memory).
