Possible threat detected with individual file scan, but not with full system scan.

Recommended Posts

What does it mean if a full system scan shows no detection, but an individual file scan from the Windows Explorer context menu is positive?

On an old XP SP3 computer I have an old Office 10 file that I've had for several years called mstordb.exe that MBAM 1.75 recently started alerting as positive for trojan.agent.UKED.   So I upgraded to MBAM 2.16 to see if it was reproducible.  On a full system scan MBAM 2.16 does not show any threat found.  However, it does detect it on an individual scan of the file in question using the Windows Explorer context menu.

It's a bit disconcerting that with MBAM 2.16 the 2 types of scan don't produce the same results.  Any idea why the full system scan would not also detect it like the individual file scan does?

Thanks.

Hello and :welcome: :

That does sound curious.  Until a staff member has a chance to reply here....

For prompt attention & evaluation by the Research Team members, I suggest the following steps:

  • Please read the advice in the pinned forum topic here: Please read before reporting a false positive
  • Then, please zip and attach the file in question to a new, separate post in the False Positives section of the forum >>here<<.
  • It would also help if you could please attach to that new post the SCAN LOG(S) in question (instructions for doing so are are below).

Thank you,
----------------

How to get scan logs:
(Export log to save as a txt file for posting in the forum when requested)

  • Open MBAM.
  • Click on the HISTORY tab > APPLICATION LOGS.
  • Double-click on the SCAN LOG which shows the date and time of the scan just performed (or the one you are asked to post).
  • Click EXPORT.
  • Click TEXT FILE (*.txt)
  • In the "Save File" dialog box which appears, click on DESKTOP.
  • In the FILE NAME box, type a name for your scan log.
  • A message box named "File Saved" should appear, stating that "Your file has been successfully exported".
  • Click OK.
  • Attach the saved log to your next reply.
