I'm making a new computer and I need the product key of my current computer. I've wanted to install Magic Key Jellybean Key Finder, but I don't know if it's safe. Here is the download page:

https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

I downloaded the keyfinder and scaned it on VirusTotal, but the results are mixed: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/b4847a422365b37e2777242d818814bd8250964b334e75b96fa6e640c24a6532/analysis/1433592798/

How is this getting assistance for "malware removal" ?

The following utility by Nir Sofer is a respected and trusted utility to obtain the encoded Microsoft KeyCode from a system the software is already installed on.

ProduKey v1.70 - Recover lost Windows product key (CD-Key) and Office 2003/2007 product key

NOTE:  Anti virus and anti malware utilities may flag this or other Nir Sofer utilities at http://www.nirsoft.net.  It is not because the utilities are malicious.  It is because in the hands of a malicious actor they can be used maliciously.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto another computer. Thank you for the feedback! And yes I know that this doesn't really fit with Malware removal but this was the closest section I could find on the site. Anyways thank you for the help!

"I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto another computer."

and you are trying to get the key from the old machine ?

is the old machine a "pre fab" (aka : off-the-shelf) or did you build it ?

if you built it , did you keep the old software and key around ?

if you did build the machine and install the OS , what version of the OS do you have ... full retail or a "builders special" ?
