Google Docs Offline - default extension by Google Chrome or Malware?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've just checked my Google Chrome Extensions and found an unrecognized extension called" Google Docs Offline". It also shows as "enabled" as well.

I didn't install this extension so I wonder whether this extension came with one of the  Google Chrome updates and it is one of their default extensions or whether I have got some kind of malware and my Google Chrome is infected?

Any help about this problem would be very much appreciated  .

Thank you.

Hello:

I don't use Chrome and I don't do much with the Google cloud, but a quick Google (!) search turned up this:

Access your files offline

Video: View and edit your files offline

IOW, it appears to be legit. :)

Cheers,

Thank you very much for your kind help Daledoc1  :).  As always very much appreciated.

I've happened to run into these 2 links you kindly supplied just before I posted here.

On one hand it appears to be a legit extension on the other hand the self installation of this mentioned extension still seems to be somewhat suspicious to me.

When I logged into my Settings ( in number 1 link above ) my "Offline access" was already set not to be active.

Also the video link ( in number 2 link above) seems to be over 9 months old.  Why hasn't this extension surfaced earlier?

Just to stop my paranoia. Does anyone else on here using Google Chrome and has had this "Google Docs Offline" Extension appear recently?

Thanks

I just installed this browser on my current laptop.  I haven't used Google Chrome for a long time, so I am getting reacquainted with it.   The only extension I have purposely installed is WOT.  Google Docs offline and others are there and enabled--Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slide.  It looks like Chrome comes with them installed and enabled by default.  HTH.  :)

Thank you for your reply, Amethyst  :) . That's great to know.
