USB not detected

Ignored

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The USB devices (couple of pen drives and an external hard drive) are not detected on my laptop. Actually I used all these USB devices on my Desktop PC too, and not sure where the problem is, but these USB devices are not working on both computers. I ran scan from defender, checked the drivers and updates, but found nothing. Please help.

Hello and Welcome!

Have you tested these devices on a friends computer to see if they work with their computer? Have you tested one of your friends devices on your computer to see if it works (a known good working one)?

This will help to isolate if the devices went bad....

We would need more info on the system....

Please read the following and in your next reply ATTACH the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs

(the three files should be CheckResults.txt, FRST.txt and Addition.txt)

Thank You,

Well we would really like to help you further if we could but since the logs show that this computer has entries designed to steal and/or pirate software (from Microsoft) we will not be able to assist you without you removing and/or uninstalling the pirated software.

This topic will be closed by one of the Admins or Mods due to evidence of cracked or pirated software on this system.

Piracy Policy

Thank you

Let's have you go for a general malware cleanup and then if needed you can come back here after that.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Say that I asked you to post there, then send me a PM and let me know when you have the new topic and I'll help you look at it further in the other forum.

Thanks

I would suggest taking the drive and connecting it to another computer and see if it's detected or not. I could be the drive has gone bad or the controller on the drive. It could be the cable is bad. Hooking to another computer can help to try and track down issues with it.

I have tested it to another computer, but it is not getting detected there...The cable is good, after connecting as I see hard drive's LED is on and making some noise, as it was used to . but it does not appear on the drive list in the PC...Might be hard disk gone bad...no idea if something can be done as it is not getting detected at all  :(

Sadly it probably has died. Drive failure now days is very common. Depending on the model of the drive you might be able to remove it from the enclosure and install it into the computer as a normal 3.5" SATA drive. My own personal experience though is often that the drive has failed and not the onboard electronics of the USB enclosure. Certainly worth trying though if the data is important.
