  1. It never rains but it pours . I thought I had checked this Topic for Email replies, or with Christmas missed them. Thankyou again exile360 for posting helpful info, plus all who have contributed. exile360 post. Kaspersky incompatible software lists: * Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 : - http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2010/install?qid=208280127 * Kaspersky Antivirus 2010 : - http://support.kaspersky.com/kav2010/install?qid=208280128 * Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 : - http://usa.kaspersky.com/support/home/inte...2249/208279751/ * Kaspersky Antivirus 2009 : - http://usa.kaspersky.com/support/home/anti...2261/208279750/ I'm very fond of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, over the years it has filled a hole of the "On Demand Scanner" when a few AV products gave it away, or just became unreliable. To have Kaspersky Internet Security is excellent feeling too. I went to the source and started a thread at Kaspersky Labs, ... after being emailed from Kaspersky Support, "There are no Lists" , and gotsome further helpful links to incompatible programs . Is there a list of incompatible programs KIS 2010 ?, Pre-Install / Save a lot of fuss. Suddenly all is revealed, thankyou all at MalwareBytes, and Kaspersky Labs Forums for taking the time to help out someone new to these quirks !
  2. Thanks for your insights into the inner workings (Politics) of AntiMalware provider's. Funny, I've been using Kaspersky products for about two years and not come across any problems really . Anyhoo ... exile360 you've given me some good info to work with, thankyou. I notice though you have KAV 2010, not KIS . Wouldn't this change things, i.e. compatability issues ? I'll read this over when I have some spare brain cells. Thanks for replying . @Baz. Damn, no one said anything obvious, thankyou ! If someone tells me I had four infected files, which took about a Nanosecond to dispell, and when asked, Please; why do you believe them to be indication of Malware ? And your source, thanks and you get a reply; "Why do I believe them to be malware? To bo honest, I'm not sure." It really is disconcerting, not that I want to be mean to anyone volunteering their time, I don't know of any reputable Forum I could say such a thing My teachers used to say my text was a waste of Bandwidth, ( it worried me a lot ) :) , just to toughen me up against bad people like myself. Plus heck, I did apologise. Cheers and thankyou for your insights Hmmm, so I'm staying with KIS 2009 , and hey don't go updating Mozilla Thunderbird 3 if your running Kaspersky, KIS xxx .
  3. I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse here, but ... I've been running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware quite happily alongside KIS 2009 (8.0.0.506 ) for six months. No qualms, KIS '09 did insist I uninstall Spybot S&D however on install, but them the breaks. I'm talking about a Licensed KIS . I decided to update to KIS 2010 (9.0.0.736) about a week ago. It was a disaster of many facets of which I was unable to unravel, reverted back to KIS 2009, after three days of advice. To try to cut a long story short, and leave out the juicy conflicts I had with the hardly less than useless "helpers" @ https://forum.kasperskyanz.com.au/index.php?showtopic=146 (No malice intended . Really I can't get into that here obviously, sorry . When someone says I have Malware on my machine I expect them to know what it is, and to be sure ) I'm the one who objects to being told I have Malware, and is replied to when questioning "why" ; the helper saying, "Why do I believe them to be malware? To bo honest, I'm not sure." So I Emailed Tech support after submitting a GetSystemInfo .log to them. This is their reply why can't install KIS 2010 (9.0.0.736): HI, You have incompatible software Please remove them You have malwarebytes and spyware blaster Go to start > control panel > add / remove programs Remove both of them Please clean up your temp folder (delete the whole file on this folder) C:\Documents and Settings\Xxxx\Local Settings\Temp Regards, Kaspersky ANZ Consumer Support Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 6:30 pm AEST support@kasperskyanz.com.au Phone: 1300-762-833 (03) 9005-1669 NZ: (09) 887-0355 sms06 I'm pretty well at my wits end, as I'm sure that Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 had been adapted to accept Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware ? Reading posts here after recieving Email from Kaspersky support lead me to post here. The problems I encountered with KIS 2010 ranged from let's just say strangely erratic behaviour at the most inconvenient times. (Rookit scanner on the hour, although disabled) Please if someone has knowledge further than I about these incompatibilities they'd be most welcomely recieved, and of course the Kaspersky problems aren't what I'm asking about, it's the sudden incompatibility of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with KIS 2010 which I'm not sure of stated in above Email. I have spent more time already than I'm willing to find out why I can't get a clear fix or answer from Kaspersky . Kind Regards.
  4. Hey thankyou for all your feedback ! exile360: I get that, plus on reflection the more popular a SocialNetwork site is the harder the bad guy's are gonna target it. On the flip side it's a great place for security analysts to study methods of Malware infiltration and learn techniques plus threats . Glad I asked a seemingly silly question . The big issue is the customisied pages people "create", from scripts they find online. These are potentially the greatest threat I think as the "tweaker" has no idea what they are applying to their page. They just want the best looking page, which to the script illiterate could be carrying a dandy time bomb of Malware nastiness to all visitors, a great present for friends and Family. I would suppose a Good AntiVirus and Firewall, Browser, script blocker, (etc) should/could/would alert a passer by that the page is unsafe ? Which reminds me I'm just going to update my HOSTS file .
  5. The convenience of keeping in touch with friends and Family is obviously a good one, which I've heard often. Thanks mountaintree16 for sensible advice about immediately checking all the privacy settings, I generally whizz into My Control panel at any site I join and adjust Email and contact settings accordingly, I'd have done so I'm sure on Facebook. In fact, I'm like a ghost that only moves in the darkest of night as far as security and have been trained in Malware Cleaning, so I was surprised at how good Facebook was at linking me up to other sites on the Web. I use disposable Email accounts, cryptic Usernames, very long / strong passwords but they dug deeper obviously using my IP Adress, and maybe my ISP, i.e. location, phone numbers are easy to find if you have the right software and some frugal details - whatever, the mind boggles . Bit beyond what I would consider being a bit of a nuisance. Once I deleted the account the terms are, "After two weeks expire and you haven't logged in, all information will be destroyed, along with your Account." I was also actually wondering why malwarebytes.org, and many other companies and security forums are advertising these sites ? If I couldn't handle their tactics I suppose Security sites like this and others similar have very strong protection against any phising attacks, and probing, in fact I know they pride themselves on it, especially after the horrible collapse of CastleCops early this year. Maybe I'm making too much of this but ...
  6. I've pretty well said it. Seems these places are a disaster waiting to happen / have happened as far as personal information, and Security to Forums. Is it just a form of advertising for company's, I can't imagine the social pressure is that great to induce security sites to be wanting to be seen on the "celebrity" red carpet . I'm sure there's a good reason that everywhere I go Twitter, Facebook are prominently place at the top of each page, it just escapes me . My experience: Someone (aquantaince) invited me to join Facebook, so I did. I looked at my profile after a week and so much information had been trolled that it scared the pants of me. i.e. Videos I'd rated as Good from Youtube and other sites were classed as having been rated on facebook, with thumbnail previews, enough thanks, I got outa there very quickly. I don't leave any cookies after a session, I suppose they have my IP Address, it astounded me they bothered, too soft a word, "went to great lengths" to thumbnail a video I'd rated at another site, for someone who prides themselves as being a clean surfer, I found it really frightening. I'm sure there's an intelligent kindly member just chuffing at the bit to explain this trivia to the security conscious naivetes Plus , "Why do you Twitter, and Facebook ?"
  7. Hi IT Expert . It is important to state what kind of system you are running when asking for advice . Either Home , Business , Win 98 , XP , Vista , Server. As Raid said : Personally I like Avast! home edition along with MBAM , and as it hasn't as yet been mentioned MVPs HOST File , but not along with Spybot S&D immunisation as you may run into some problems . The landscape changes also . If asked this 6 months ago AVGAS (AVG AntiSpyware - formerly known as Ewido) would certainly have been mentioned as an on demand scanner , but AVG dropped the product so a good Anti Spyware at the moment would be SUPERAntiSpyware as a on demand AS . Each System is specifically configured even though they are rated as Win XP SP3 , or Vista Ultimate . The use of third party software ( Non Microsoft) which is arguably essential , does affect your overall system when compared to others so getting a good idea of what works best for you is half the battle Personally I run Kaspersky Internet Security , it suits my needs
  8. I started off doing a Tertiary course in Electronic and Computer engineering . I've had a small computer repair business , participated on a Anti Virus Help and Support Forum , and 3 Months ago took the plunge and started as a trainee at a reputable Malware removal University I love to fix stuff , since I was a kid . Ive also been a motor mechanic , but when they put computers into cars the whole thing lost its Art . I think a word like "passion" needs to be a major part of your makeup when considering any Technical undertaking , you'll sweat sweet tears of joy and mostly tears of frustration until the mind builds the pathways from student to fixer (Expert) in any field .
  9. Thanks for the reply , generally I'm connected to the Internet , don't have a proxy server , but have my Firewall enabled to successfully update . Will let you know if this problem persists . Thankyou .
  10. Hi RogueRemover support team , I've just received an error popup while updating Rogue Remover . A picture says it all , please see attachment . Seems I'm having one of those days ... http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3516/ro...ateerroryi4.jpg
