  1. Hi David Sorry for delay. Mum still in hospital. I did back up my data. Had a blue screen event today. Wonder how long 'til it will be unusable. Not sure what further help you can offer me? Unless you can fly over to the UK and fit a new HDD for me
  2. I'm not sure when laptop was purchased, as it was my late father's. It's certainly over 5 years old.
  3. Thank you Dave. My brother has a Windows 7 installation disc. I've taken a couple of screenshots for you about my system and my current HDD, just for info. Still don't have the energy to deal with this though, so I appreciate your conclusion in your edit.
  4. I'll have a think about it. Lot of stress in my life right now. I am my mother's full-time carer and she's deteriorated recently (coming out of hospital soon, so lots to deal with). Don't have the energy to deal with computer problems.
  5. I will back up my data. Don't know what I'll do after that though, as I wouldn't be able to replace the disk myself. I do have another even older laptop that is still working but it's slower than this one. Might have to use that if this one goes completely, until I can afford a new computer.
  6. I've attached the error log. I wouldn't be able to fit new hdd myself or clone the drive. Would have to get someone to do it for me. I can back up all important files onto my external hd though. Error log for forum.txt
  7. Yes, that's the only line in red/pink. What about the "completed with read failure" test message? It said the test would take 92 minutes but it only did 10% and then it stopped with that message. Can't it be tested fully?
  8. Self test log (2 screenshots - wouldn't fit into 1):-
  9. Had error with GSmartControl. Please see below:-
  10. Thanks very much Aura. Will do this later on today or tomorrow and then post back with results.
  11. I see that it does report 192 KB in bad sectors. So, that means it is a hard disk problem?
  12. I've copied everything under "General" and "Details" (Friendly View and XML View) from the Winnit Event. You probably didn't need to see all of them, as they probably just repeat themselves but I thought I'd copy everything just in case, as I don't know anything about these things!
