  1. Hi, Once I discovered that it wasn't a firefox issue, I went to the malwarebytes forum for help and as I asked the question there, I was going through other postings there and one poster had a similar issue (but not the same site) and the techs there had him download RogueKiller. I tried that and it worked. It found vlcscript.exe on my system and in my registry, so I used that to clean it, rebooted and the problem was gone. Figured I'd post the solution here so that others can find it as there are no hits on sh.st or shorte.st sites popping up.
  2. If I may interject. Try this solution. It worked for me when I had the same issue. TDDSKiller helped. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/5210b19c-4801-47ad-8a61-0075f031e44d/svchostexe-virus-windows-7?forum=w7itprosecurity
  3. When I boot up, firefox starts automatically and opens the site with the following url http://sh.st/qtl2Q This does not happen any other time. I can close that browser and reopen it and I never get redirected there again. It doesn't happen with Chrome or IE, so its obviously targeting my default browser. I have ran spybot, malwarebytes, superantispyware, hijackthis. Nothing has detected it, although I have found other issues and fixed them, this problem still remains. I even checked the profile of firefox, I see nothing that was modified. This does not happen for all users, only for one specific user. Any idea on what may be causing this? Or what I can do? I have already tried going to troubleshooting -> reset firefox and that did not work. I just tried uninstalling firefox and while I was going through the registry and deleting all references to firefox, I must have deleted something that reverted IE to be the default browser. All of a sudden IE opened on its own going to that site. So its not a firefox issue. Its something in windows. Nothing i'm running is detecting this. This is very frustrating.
