  1. Now that the functionality previously in MBAM, MBAE & MBAR, has been combined into Malwarebytes 3, can I ask which internet browsers the new product supports ?
  2. Personally I would like to see the 'Reduce priority of scans to improve multitasking' option from v2, brought back in v3, as scans don't just slow PCs down, because of their CPU usage. Scans also slow PCs down, because of their effect on storage. Not everyone out there is running SSDs and you can certainly tell that a regular / automatic / background scan is running, on hard drive based systems. On slower systems (e.g. older laptops with slow CPUs and slow hard drives), I tend to switch all automatic scanning off (and run them manually when nothing else is going on) as the performance hit from running a scan, is too great when trying to use the system normally.
  3. In my case, uninstalling & reinstalling didn't invalidate my lifetime license. I had to write it down & enter it after I had reinstalled, but that all worked fine.
  4. There are plenty of sites out there that test security solutions e.g. AV-Comparatives, Av-Test, MRG-Effitas, SE Labs, Virus Bulletin. Some of the PC magazines also do a reasonable job e.g PC Mag. There is enough info in there to keep you busy for plenty of hours ! In terms of how much security suites slow your PC down, AV-Comparatives to run a specific Performance Test and Avira does indeed perform well. The last time I looked properly, I decided on Kaspersky. Back then it was a toss up between Kaspersky & Bitdefender and they always seem to be near or at the top of any comparisons. Before buying, you might want to check the websites & forums for any incompatibilities with any other security software you are running. I would suggest testing the trial version, before buying (to find real world problems on your system). When it comes to buying, boxed versions via Amazon (other shopping websites are available) are often much cheaper than buying directly from the manufacture, particularly if you buy last years version, which shops don't like to have on display and therefore discount (you can of course update the version after you install).
  5. Thanks for that. I have already turned off 'Trusted Applications Mode' in KIS, as it causes problems with genuine apps, far too often for my liking !
  6. Thanks for your reply Telos. Last night (before you replied) I did most of what you said i.e. deactivated the license, then uninstalled & reinstalled following the MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.0 (I didn't remove any residual files manually, or run CCleaner). I'm happy to report, that all is well now. The Malwarebytes icon in the taskbar no longer has the warning exclamation mark on it and no longer says 'Exploit Protection: Off', when I right click on it. The Malwarebytes Dashboard now says that 'Real Time Protection - Exploit Protection' is On. I'm now able to create custom exploit protected applications (e.g. SumatraPDF), and can turn protection on for them (the slider will now move from 'Off' to 'On'). I guess this conforms that the known issue which says Custom anti-exploit shields are not enabled by default just means that you need to turn them on manually, after you create them (they stay on after a reboot). On booting, I still get the 'Real-Time Protection layers turned off' notification, but that's a known (and minor) issue Occasionally, after installing, you will see a “protection layer is off” warning while the protection is being or has already been automatically turned on. (We have a fix for this coming soon!) I can thoroughly recommend the MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.0 as it solved all of my problems !
  7. Could you share any details on the manual unblocking that you had to do in Kaspersky please ? I'm also potentially having a potential problem with KIS not playing nicely with MWB 3.0. https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/193275-exploit-protection-off/?_fromLogin=1
  8. I'm also running Kaspersky Internet Security (latest version), if that helps.
  9. I installed Malwarebytes 3 (3.0.5.1299 version), over an existing MBAM 2 install (premium, with lifetime license), having already uninstalled MBAE (premium) in preparation. On booting, I get the 'Real-Time Protection layers turned off' notification, with the button to 'Turn On' (which does nothing). If I right click on the Malwarebytes icon in the taskbar, it says 'Exploit Protection: Off' (and I can't turn it on from there). If I open Malwarebytes, it says on the Dashboard 'Exploit Protection: On'. I haven't tried uninstalling / mbam-clean.exe / reinstalling yet, as I wanted to report the issue. I created some custom exploit protected applications (e.g. SumatraPDF), which created ok, but I then can't turn protection on for them (the slider won't move from 'Off' to 'On'). I'm aware of the known issue that 'Custom anti-exploit shields are not enabled by default.', but does that also mean we can't enable them on ourselves yet ? If custom shields aren't working yet, would we be better off switching exploit protection off in Malwarebytes 3 and also running MBAE ? I'm on Windows 10 Pro x64, Version 1607, Build 14393.576 I have attached a zipped copy of C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\logs MBAMSERVICE_MarkBevan.zip
  10. I have no problem with recommending the paid versions of MBAM & MBAE in addition to a traditional AV product, but is MSE/Defender really good enough as that AV product ? In most of the AV type tests that I have seen, MSE/Defender does badly. Are you really saying that when running the paid versions of MBAM & MBAE there would be no benefit in also running one of the AV big hitters (e.g. Kaspersky or Bitdefender), instead of MSE/Defender ? I'm no PC security expert, so I'm just trying to learn here
  11. Thanks pbust, that worked fine (only the first registry key existed)
  12. I want to move my Premium License to a new laptop, and downgrade my old laptop to using the free version. Using my Prelmium License on the new laptop has worked fine, but I can't seem to downgrade my old laptop to using the free version. I have tried uninstalling & removing the MBAE folders in Program Files & ProgramData (it's an old Vista laptop), but whenever I install MBAE (the Free or Experimental versions), it picks up my License ID. Any ideas on how I can downgrade my old laptop from using my Premium license, to using the Free version ?
  13. I have been using the "other" profile for Thunderbird for ages now, because of the crashes mentioned above when using the "browser" profile. Having clean installed 1.06.1.1019 and recreated my Thunderbird custom shield using the "browser" profile, it seems to be working fine now.
  14. Custom shields are also lost after activating (i.e. after converting from the Trial version to the Premium version, by entering your ID & Key). They do however return after a reboot. It looks like the activation process isn't reading the applications.dat file.
  15. I'm not using EMET or HMPA. The only security type software I use is Norton Internet Securty and MBAM Premum (I also use OpenDNS). My OS is Win7 64 bit (fully patched). Do you need any logs attaching ?
