  1. Hello Android 8888. Yes, it put up an impressive fight, but you ultimately overcame! Although I really appreciate the amount of your personal time you invested in solving this problem, I cannot help but wonder what compels you to do so. Regarding this laptop, I have removed the tools we installed, and used PSI to update all software installed. I have reboot the system several times and the proxy settings remain on auto-detect. I also wonder if the install shield problem was a result of malware or simply a badly executed version for some software I purposely installed. All the same, I thank you sincerely, and wish you the best going forward. Guy Seela
  2. Thanks Android 8888. What is intallshield, and how do you think it made it's way onto this laptop? Also, I would like to compensate you for spending your time on this. Can you provide instructions on how to do this - maybe via paypal?
  3. Haha...I think we finally got it. After reboot, IE has set proxy to auto detect. Here's the fixlog. Fixlog.txt
  4. Install Shield isn't listed in control panel uninstall. The I's are intel, iracing and iTunes.
  5. No progress...proxy setting revert after reboot...Here are the logs. FRST.txt Addition.txt
  6. To summarize, after running all three anti-malware programs, the proxy settings were set to automatically detect until I rebooted. Now they're back to manual. I'm attaching the logs. I haven't checked yet, but before I ran the procedures you described, I noted two new strange behaviors - 1) I could not access an online bank account on this pc, but I could on my desktop (the page would not load on this laptop). 2) I have Norton Identity Safe and normally once I log in, it is activated each time I go to a site requiring a login. Tonight, each time I went to a site to login, I was prompted to login to Norton Identity Safe. I'll check that again after posting here. 7. Hi Android 8888. Here is the url to sendspace: https://www.sendspace.com/file/xnq31v This is the page where there's a download button, but I'm not sure if it's the right one - let me know if it's not. I'm attaching the MTB file as well. I'll reboot now and let you know if anything has changed. MTB.txt
  8. Same problem...the file I downloaded is an executable file, and when I right-click>run as administrator, I get the blue circle for a second then nothing...
  9. I am following your instructions (they are very clear and easy) but when I click run as administrator I get the blue circle for a moment then nothing. After waiting a few minutes, I use msconfig to set up normal boot. When I reboot, I get a warning from Malwarebytes (real time protection turned off). I turn it back on with no issues. Still, I can't seem to get windows repair to run.
  10. Hey Android 8888...yes, I did try to reset IE. I couldn't download tweaking.com in safe mode with network so I did it in regular mode then booted in safe mode and tried to run it as administrator, but I don't think it ran at all as nothing apparent happened for about 5 minutes. So, I booted normally.
  11. No progress. Maybe I should just use firefox and unistall chrome and IE.
  12. No joy. Settings for proxy are back except for firefox. For some reason, they remain on auto detect where I set them. IE, Chrome and system settings all have them set to manual. Oh, Norton has is set to auto detect as well. Chrome is behaving the same as it was with any google search returning the "Custom Search" results. I noticed LAN Settings (Chrome>settings>change proxy settings>connection tab) has a warning that Some settings are managed by your system administrator. Settings has a hyperlink to instructions on resetting IE - I tried that after rebooting, but no change. Maybe I should just use Firefox and be done with it...for some reason it seems to be unaffected.
  13. I think maybe something we did worked. I ran fix.reg as you instructed and when I went to set IE, Chrome, Firefox and Norton, they were all set to Auto detect. Firefox was actually set to Use System Settings, and I changed that to auto detect settings, but I'm not sure what the difference is. Chrome search works as it should now. Now I will reboot and check everything once again. <crossing fingers for luck>
  14. I backed up the registry and created the fix.reg using the all files type, but when I right click there is no run option. There is open with, but no run or run as administrator.
