  1. No, that didn't work. Not a huge deal I guess, unless its indicative of another problem.
  2. Under sound, video and game controllers audio codecs legacy audio drivers legacy video capture devices media control devices sigma tel c-major audio video codecs
  3. On closer inspection, the volume buttons are working but the window for the volume indicator doesn't show when adjusting the volume.
  4. I have not had a chance to rebuild my laptop yet but since we have made the last batch of changes now I noticed that my volume control buttons don't work. Any chance we deleted something that controls them? Thanks
  5. Thanks for all your help. I believe the computer is malware free but must have some other problems. The reoccurring windows update has stopped so far, so that is good. The computer runs very slow while browsing on sites like facebook. After about 5 mins it needs to be rebooted to be useable again, for about 5 mins. The computer still locks up if it hibernates and tries to awaken. I suppose I should format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. What do you think? Is there a set of instructions on how to do that? I bought Kaspersky IS on your recommendation and donated to your link last week.
  6. Should I remove the previously restored entry?
  7. Restored that entry but still no scroll on the touch pad...
  8. Also, since the last changes we made, my scroll bars on my touch pad don't work. Settings seem fine....
  9. I took care of that so we'll see if it helps. Windows did want to update again. Windows XP Update for Windows XP (KB967715) updated again. This exact same update has hit my computer literally 100's of times. Several times a day at times. The slowness really seems to get worse when this update wants to download again. Any ideas as to what this update is and why it keeps affecting this computer. I have to believe that if this is not my problem, then it is a symptom of the problem.

  12. I preformed the diagostics test as an "extended test". The computer passed all tests ok...
  13. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and the hard drive is a Toshiba MK8026GAX. Looks like it's a 70.2 GB drive about half full.
  14. The Kaspersky scan results: Do you recommend a solution for the problems I'm experiencing with this computer? (The computer shows signs of problems as it runs slower and slower the longer you use it. After about a half hour you have to reboot it to make it useable again. Nearly every time you restart the computer a windows update is available to download, no matter how many times you download and install the update, there is always another one when you restart. The machine locks up as well when it hibernates.) Thanks for your help.
