  1. Hello anyone... I know I'm a newbie, so a panicked postmay not be the best way to ingratiate myself but hopefully someone will be able to give me some level of advice. Like a lot of people I know, I think because i can muck about on the internet and itunes that I am computer literate... Clearly not.... I bought a new laptop last week, installed all the programs I usually do (McAfee / itunes) nothing spectacular. Not entirely sure how it happened, but this morning I received a 'Windows Security Alert' stating that my computer was at risk etc. Almost immediately a spyware 'Security Suite' scan began on my computer followed by an array of pop ups saying that system files were infected. A few more pop ups asking me if i wanted to 'Activate' antivirus software. It will not let me access Firefox or Internet Explorer....simply redirecting me to 'antispycraft' webpage. I'm using a clean pc just now, on the same home network.....I've run Spybot in safe mode (which gave me two problems which it resolved). Following reboot...the same spyware returned.... I've run Malwarebytes....different problem resolved (i saved the log). Reboot....no change.... As it's a new laptop I have nothing to lose, so I'm rebooting to factory settings. Don't really know why as I'm clearly just clutching at straws now and don't really expect any change.... I'm not really as computer illiterate as I'm making out (hopefully). I'd really appreciate any advice or walk/talk through to save me from throwing the laptop out the window!!! Many thanks. Rob
