  2. now i can only log on with save mode but not under regular mode. it freezes me at the welcome screen. i did some googling, it sounds like it could be a windows update problem. let me try restoring it to like last year's restore point
  3. yea tried everything, the loading sign for the cursor seems to take longer before disappearing, but still can't run any antivirus or programs
  4. found the following two files C\_OTL/MovedFiles/01262011_134932/C_Users/Zhi/AppData/Local/Temp/Hni.exe C\_OTL/MovedFiles/01262011_134932/C_Windows/Hpebia.exe but C\_OTL/MovedFiles/01262011_134932/C_Users/Zhi/AppData/Local/Temp/Hni.exe becomes Hni_exe1296151818.arl and C\_OTL/MovedFiles/01262011_134932/C_Windows/Hpebia.exe becomes Hpebia_exe_1296151818.arl could not find the other 2 files under the temp folder
  5. when i search for *.arl or .arl or simply arl, even when i tried to search for _ , it gives me No items match your research
  6. renamed them, rebooted my system, but could not find the renamed files under search when i searched for _INFECTED.arl
  7. finished running the scan, found the following two trojan: /mnt/sda1/Windows/Temp/kaaj.tmp/setup.exe Trojan horse Crypt.AFOC /mnt/sda1/Windows/Temp/nkmq.tmp/setup.exe Trojan horse SHeur3.BMRF /mnt/sda1/_OTL/MovedFiles/01262011_134932/C_Users/Zhi/AppData/Local/Temp/Hni.exe Trojan horse FakeAV.ILK /mnt/sda1/_OTL/MovedFiles/01262011_134932/C_Windows/Hpebia.exe Trojan horse FakeAV.ILN my laptop is still at the Scan Report page, should i go ahead and rename them following your instruction from your AVG rescue CD guide?
  8. hi guys, my laptop is having some serious trouble and i am considering reinstalling Win 7. But the factory state OS was vista and then HP mailed me a upgrade disk to upgrade it to Win 7. My question is can i use that disk to reinstall my OS, or do i have to reset it back to factory mode then use that upgrade disk again to get it back to Win7? Also, if i do that, would i lose all of my programs like MS Office? Thank you very much for your help.
  9. and the DVD they sent me was a upgrade disk from HP and Microsoft
  10. yea my factory OS version was Vista. and i am running the AVG rescue disk now, hope we can find out what's the problem
  11. yes, it is a HP laptop, and i don't have a restore dvd for W7, but i have that Win7 installation DVD along with the HP Upgrade Manager DVD, which came after Win 7 was released and i used that to upgrade to Win 7, At this point, can i just reinstall Win 7 using that disk? Will that solve the problem? Since i don't have anything that important on my laptop, it might be better if i reinstall the OS. Thanks again for all your help.
  12. did not find any odd entries in Device manager, however, there is a triangular yellow exclamation mark on Security Processor Loader Driver and Consumer IR Devices. When i click to see the property for the Security Processor Loader Driver, it reads "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have al its drivers installed.(Code 24) and for the Consumer IR Devices, it reads"THis device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.(Code 31) i have tried downloading the AVPTool last night after reading the other post, but no luck at running it on my laptop.
  13. thank you very much for your help so far, greatly appreciated. we are also snowing like crazy here. i guess i'll see you tomorrow then
  14. i tried that in the command prompt by typing C:\Users\Zhi>cacls "c:\Users\Zhi\Desktop\tdsskiller.exe"/G Everyone:F it gave me a response: NOTE: Cacls is now deprecated, please use Icacls. when i tried with C:\Users\Zhi>Icacls "c:\Users\Zhi\Desktop\tdsskiller.exe"/G Everyone:F , it gave me a result: Invalid parameter "Everyone:F"
