  1. Porthos...where are the two other Musketeers?? Used your recipe for the fix and bam! document back to normal!!! U DA MAN!! However, with regards to the Malwarebytes program, why was it slowing down my pc?? Any ideas?? For example, I would open a folder and my pc would take forever to open it...also, when moving about on my pc opening and closing a particular window ;word, excel. browser etc.] would take forever...was like my resources were tied up with another prog. I did open a prog called Process Explorer [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx] which by the way is a great tool to have on hand....anyway, opened it up and found nothing out of the ordinary...any ideas? Thanks again for the Word fix...funny as it was so simple to remedy...lol but that is how most pc fixes are...just have to know where to look!!
  2. AdvancedSetup Attached a screenshot of the word doc that shows the problems I mentioned in my first post....I guess when u open the doc you view it without any wing dings etc. since your word prog. has not been compromised. Here is the screenshot [u might have to zoom in to view to the details]: Doc1.doc Doc1.doc
  3. If Word was corrupted by having REPAIRED and RE-INSTALLED the app. it should have been fixed....looks to be like a registry problem that also affects other apps that I am not aware of at the moment. Keep in mind my pc seems to be running slower than usual....I believe it could be a memory problem withe Malwarebytes. Why do I say this? Right after I installed the prog. [after re-booting after install] my pc immediately began running very slow...I looked at the recent fixes for Malwarebytes and found they had fixed a previous issue with regards to memory usage. Also found a slew of other recent fixes but do not recall most of them. Anyway, I think the problem lies in either the memory [i have 4 gigs of performance memory...although XP only recognizes 3.5] and a registry problem [word] and without knowing all of the registry keys Malwarebytes uses to install itself ...yes I am sure there are keys leftover from uninstalling the program...which could be the problem...figure why fuss when I can just reformat...have done it a million times. I am a gamer and after installing and uninstalling hundreds of game one's registry gets filled up with garbage after a while and as such slows down the pc..which the solution is to reformat. I am tech savvy so it is a piece of cake....somewhat time consuming to get all of the services running to my preference and setting up the pc to perform to my preferred specs but overall it solves any problems such as mine...will spend a couple of hours this weekend and will not install Malwarebytes again...lol. Either that or make sure my system restore is on before thinking about installing it.
  4. Didn/t save a copy...deleted the program after the incident occurred. Both online scans provide me with a clean bill of health....will probably reformat the pc. I usually reformat ever few years anyway....as the registry does get filled up with unnecessary keys etc. etc. Won't take but about a half hour to get it back to new...already have backups of my needed info/docs/programs etc. etc. Will run system clean, set my services accordingly and upload from backup bam...pc will run liike it is brand spanking new.
  5. Chrome's user agreement is full of clauses that basically say that Google can run amok and do whatever it wants with your info ...as u surf chrome collects data and sends it back to the mother ship-google....not that I do anything that breaks the law but who wants big brother watching their every step....and besides who knows what they will eventually do with all of the info they scoop from you....me no like. With regards to IE...I was astounded by the benchmarks presented by the test results...in short the article stated that IE needs to be severely updated...which Microcheese is doing at the moment but who knows what they will churn out when they are all done....but as u stated browsers are a preference...for me FF has a lot to offer and is always evolving to better itself vs. IE which has for the most part stayed the same...at least since I started using it back in '97...lol!! Sure, there have been a few upgrades but for the most part it is pretty much the same browser I started using way back when....funny thing, the other day I deleted a bookmark using my FF browser and needed it back...all I had to do was to go to BOOKMARKS-ORGANIZE BOOKMARKS-IMPORT AND BACKUP and then click the restore option...bam...bookmark was back....too bad life itself isn't as easy to fix...ha!
  6. Trendmicro gave me a clean bill of health....scanning with bitdefender...be back shortly...
  7. Thanks for the scoop of info....considered your info but will do a bitdefender and trendmicro online scan instead....I am not familiar with the program u mentioned....was not familiar with Malwarebytes as well and messed up my pc...so....will let u know what they found if anything....my pc is fairly secured...just short of a chastity belt on it...but still nothing in safe nowadays.....but will return to let u know the scoop on my findings....
  8. If you really feel like opening up the cranium...u can install a virtual browser which will keep your pc from catching any bugs/garbage etc. ...install a program called Sandboxie [http://www.sandboxie.com/ ] ...this allows you to surf without worrying about catching any garbage...simply click the program and it will set your broswer inside a "box" which will contain anything and not allow it to hit your pc...when closing the browser u then select the sandboxie program to delete the contents of your online browsing time and bam...all of the stuff collected while surfing the net is gone....for more fun and knowledge check out the link: http://www.sandboxie.com/ U will have wished u knew about this program a long time ago!!
  9. LINK FOR IE TAB https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 LINK FOR IE VIEW https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ad...ication=firefox Even if you should not like FF [don't know why] but give it a shot ...play around with it and get familiar with the browser....maybe use it as a backup until u are a bit familiar with it and then go for the gusto and set IE to the side to collect dust!!
  10. pc mag or pc world did a run on which browsers were the best...IE came in dead last....they tested about 5 other browsers [Opera, FF, Safari, Gecko and another one...anyway, IE was slower and less secure than all of the tested broswers...Some web sites will only allow IE but if smart use FF [Firefox] and install an add-on called IE TAB AND IE VIEW [ask your kid to install for you-ha] and when a page asks for IE all u do is right click and select the IE TAB or VIEW option and bam...u can view the page in IE. IE is dinosaur and should be put to death...once u use FF and utilize all of the benefits u will ask yourself why u ever used IE in the first place...move forward with progress and install FF but keep IE as a backup even though it suckks green eggs and ham!!
  11. Repaired...no fix..uninstalled and reinstalled...no fix....not good!!
  12. I think I will do just that....As u can see from the doc it got pretty messed up but thank goodness the document I uploaded is about 7 years old...I should just delete it since the info and card have long since expired....but my other docs they are muy importante...anyway....thanks for the scoop..will let u know how I faired out.
  13. Downloaded and installed Malwarebytes, updated the program and scanned my pc...let me say that I should have double checked that my system restore was on PRIOR to installing the program...which I did not..and come to find out that it was off. Anyway, after scanning my pc [was found to be clean as I suspected] I noticed that when I opened any word documents or folders they would hang forever before opening. After waiting about 3 minutes for my word doc to open I noticed that before and after each sentence there are wingdings as well as arrows and periods in between the words. Besides using the system restore [which was off prior to the install] and a reformat what can I do to eliminate these problems? Prior to running the prog. my pc was running at optimum speed without any problems...yeah, I should have remembered to look at the system restore status [kick my own behind for that one] and made sure it was on...but in the mean time is there anything that can fix this probem?? I uploaded a document that has the items in question FYI ...Thanks!! Sweatshirt_Order.doc Sweatshirt_Order.doc
