Still can't update Scanner database

Recommended Posts

Was requested to open a new post following numerous posts in the Malwarebytes Anti-malware help forum. The last post from AdvancedSetup indicated a possible software conflict. As far as running DDS.SCR or DDS.COM, I did run dds .com the other day and attached the result.

I tried to do a database update today again with the same results. My database is now outdated by 15 days. Looks like it was updated on 3/10/14. (FYI...I did notice there were several Windows updates on 3/11/14).I ran a full scan yesterday following the quick scan that found the PUP, with nothing found. I ran a quick scan today that found another PUP--removed it. I received a suspicious email today that I wanted to scan with McAfee. However, using their instructions was unable to scan any folder or file. Contacted their tech support and asked: why I can't "right-click anywhere in Windows" to scan a file, and why I can't exclude Malwarebytes from a McAfee virus scan.

Gave them a copy of the data that AdvancedSetup posted and they said that yes there is a conflict. Basically they want to remove Malwarebytes "as running 2 virus programs will most likely cause something to fail." I explained that I had run both for a number of years without any problem until now. I said I didn't want to delete Malwarebytes for now, that I would like to resolve this issue first. They were agreeable to that.

Hello LJS.

Our very recently released Version 2 of MBAM is available now. So for your consideration:   I suggest you get and use Version 2 as follows:

Uninstall Malwarebytes Anti-Malware using Control Panel's Program and Features
then reboot the system

then get and install the Version 2 program from this link
http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam

Save it from the download to the Desktop.
then do a Right-click on mbam-setup.exe and select **Run as Administrator** and allow to run.

Now, please one more time, do a LOGOFF and Restart Windows for a fresh start.

Then start the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program.
Then on the **Dashboard tab**, just once, click on the **Update now** link.

Then click the **Scan tab**. Then select the radio button for **Threat scan** and click **Scan now** button.

Then tell me the results.

**Maurice**

Thank you Maurice! That seemed to do the trick. I performed the instructions with the McAfee virus scanner and Firewall disabled, just to be on the safe side. Everything worked fine and the scan found no malicious items. Next time I do an update I will leave McAfee enabled and see what happens, but I think it will be fine. Thanks again for your help.
