addsite popup

Adbots can download other spyware and adware, but there are plenty of them out there that do nothing more than log every site you visit, and transmit it back to an online database in order to deliver targeted advertising (note that most adware authors sell this info to make money off of it).

If Malwarebytes' Anti Malware cannot remove this adbot, then you can try things like Spybot Search & Destroy and the free trial of X-Cleaner (just to name a couple).

Immedietly uninstall Panda, install AntiVir, get all of the updates, and run a scan with it (preferably while Windows is running in Safe Mode).

GT500 Panda is not installed as a full AV he is referring to the online scan requested in the preHJT post instructions. I am moving this thread to the proper forum. As it is obvious from the MBAM log there is infection present.

Don, your HJT log is dated for 2/27. I need to see new logs please from an updated MBAM with all items removed that are found and then the HJT log after those actions. Thanks.

Hi

i have run the MBAM again today and the hijack - logs below (am just downloading antivir). Addsite popups still on PC. Plus new problem, AVG keeps finding a trojan horse called Navipromo.hn on my system, looked up web but couldn't find any hits for this trojan horse.

Many thanks for your help

Donald

MBAM is outdated Don. Update the program please and scan again. Your also using an outdated version of HJT. Please follow the instructions here http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 .

You really don't need Antivir as it was a misunderstanding when it was referenced. It is a good program and I would recommend it as a replacement for AVG. Do not run both programs actively.

Hi Jean

me again, AVG antivirus has been coming up (not when do scan but it does it automatically) with a Trojan horse called Navipromo.N, it gives me option to heal it which i do.

I did google search but didn't get any info on the trojan, is it new. Any suggestions on what can do, many thanks

Donald

Don please turn off Tea Timer, this is requested in initial instructions and needs to be done to keep it from interfering with fixes. See the help tab on SBS&D for how to do this. I have also asked that you run a full scan with MBAM and you keep doing the quick scan. Please run a full scan of your C drive after you update. You are still using version 1.06 this is not current.

Navipromo is not new. It's been around for a while and extra nasty. I see the file now AVG is tagging. Please scan this file c:\windows\system32\nwprovau.dll at http://www.virustotal.com/ and post the results. If they come out to be an infection follow the directions for Navipromo fix.

Run HJT again put a check next to these and click fix.

Please download Navilog1 by IL-MAFIOSO:

http://perso.orange.fr/il.mafioso/Navifix/Navilog1.zip

* Extract its contents to the desktop.

* Double click on navilog1.exe to install it on your computer.

* When the installation is complete, the tool will start automatically.

* If it doesn't start automatically, please double click on Navilog1 shortcut on your desktop to run it.

* Press E for English from the language Menu.

* Type 1 in the next Menu to select Search and press Enter.

* Wait for the Scan to finish (It may take a reasonable amount of time)

* Press any key as requested .

* A new document will be produced: fixnavi.txt.

* Please copy/paste the contents of this report in your next reply and a new HJT log.

The report is also saved in the root of the directory, "%SystemDrive%\fixnavi.txt". (usually C:\fixnavi.txt)

Hi Jean

sorry had only done the quick scan for MBAM, now have done full scan with ver 1.07 (log below), didn't know how to stop teatimer, think i managed it and did another scan and fix with spybot, did the hijack and ticked the 5 files you asked, did the navilog1 as requested, the fixnavi file is below - scary that navipromo is extremely nasty, what does it do? unfortunately after did all the scans and fixes i got AVG tellingme had the naviprom still, i "Healed" it with the AVG, just done new hijack as psoting this, see below - looks like files I ticked are back.

Thanks for your time, gettign worried about number of issues i have on PC, wonder if any of my firewall defecnes are "down" or something

Open SBS&D and click on the Tools button and then Resident. You will see two boxes. One is for IE, leave that checked or check it which ever the case. The second box is for Tea Timer, uncheck it.

Your system shows no Navipromo after using the tool. It's possible AVG is giving a false positive.

MBAM removed two items that could have been causing your pop-ups. Are you still having them?

Run HJT again in scan only mode and put a check next to the following lines then click fix.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

So, now you should have Tea Timer off. Update MBAM again and run a full system scan.

Post that log and a new HJT log. Let me know how things are running.

Hi Jean

Really apprciate your time on this, the PC is running OK, maybe a little bit slower than before but not big deal for me. Haven't had addssite popup for a couple of days, and no AVG Navipromo to heal either. Did the hijack plus ticked files, 2 of them (search assistant and custom search) are back. did spybot with teatimer off, (do I keep the teatimer off for good)- (spybot found cooltoolbar, i think). Did MBAm with updated program, it found two problems, can't remember names but like ones had before.

MBAM reprt below plus new hijack from just now. Thanks again

Hi Jean

Just after sent last mail have had navipromo come up for "healing" in AVG - it happened at same time as opend firfox to go to internet. Firefox is noticably slow in starting up, will this be connected?

Thanks

Donald
