Need to update anti-malware to newest version but it isn't available yet

Recommended Posts

Hi I want to update my anti malware but the latest downloadable update on gt5000 is the 1826. I downloaded anti malware on another computer and updated to find that 1838 is the latest version. Since the exe update is still only up to 1826, is there any other way I can update my other computer's to 1838 or higher?

The problem with that computer is that it has no internet connection now after all the malware bombings it took. I'm trying to clean it up still but I think that the new definitons would really help since I'm not getting any detections on an obviously heavily infected PC as it is. Is there some file from say the updated anti malware folder from my good PC that I can "transfer" to my infected PC over a thumbdrive or something to update its definitions to 1838? Sorry if I'm making jumps in logic that may not actually work but I'm relatively new at this. Also I suppose more easily is there a specified update date on the downloadable update from gt5000?

My infected PC as it is has it pretty bad, I can't post any hijack this stuff yet but I can give a description of what I've observed.

Anti malware was first blocked and I had to rename the exe file to run it at all and even then it won't update.

My browser stopped receiving any connection, both firefox and ie. Though my bittorrent could still download...

I found that i could still browse by changing the connection settings to "automatically detect proxy"

I had the antivirus 2009 thing but was eventually removed to the point that the pop ups stopped.

I checked my device manager and the blocking WASN'T because of TDDserv.sys (sorry if the spelling is off)

Eventually internet connection stopped altogether on the PC and even playing with proxy settings was getting me nothing.

My task manager shows a self regenerating dlhost.exe

Also now everytime I start up svchost.exe keeps on saying it has problems.

Sorry it's all vague I get the feeling I got attacked from a multitude of viruses or something from all angles, and now I'm not sure where to start...

The only other way other than running the manual update is to maybe install malwarebytes on another pc and then copy over on cd the content

of an up-to-date (or just updated PC )

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

this is were the definitions files are stored.

then run your scan and follow the route of running HJT and posting the logs in the HJT part of the forum
