Hi there,

I am having a slow notebook Asus EEEPC 901 XP home edition with 1Gb of ram.

See topic http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...mp;#entry356602

I received support from Gammo

My problem seems not to be Malware related.

Installing and running Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware isn't possible

What could cause this?

A lot of things :(

Try to boot Windows in secure mode and then installing/scanning

I read somewhere else in this forum a user had the same problem which was solved with disabling his antivirus.

Could be the AV has deleted the MBAM file, best way is to exclude some files of MBAM in the AV prog

Greetings :(

Please do the following. If you already have a copy of the installer for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, delete it, you need to download a fresh copy of the latest version:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
      Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

If that does not resolve the issue then do the following:

Correct Error Expanding Variables:

Note: If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you MUST right-click on the file and select "Run as administrator".

  • Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    @color 48
    @echo off
    if exist "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" md "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
    if not exist "%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" md "%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
    if exist "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" md "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
    if not exist "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" md "%userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
    del /f /q %0

  • Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file Fix.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it if using Windows XP. If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you MUST right-click on the file and select Run as administrator otherwise it will not work.
  • Once that's complete try running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again to see if it now works without error or not.

Please let me know if either procedure was successful.

Thanks :)

Please do the following:

Create a Crash Dump:

  • Click on START and select Run
  • In the Run box type or copy/paste drwtsn32 and press Enter or click on OK
  • In the Dr. Watson for Windows verify the paths shown in Log File Path and Crash Dump which should be the following:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp

    [*]Next to Crash Dump Type: make certain that Full is selected

    [*]Make certain that under Options the following are all checked:

    • Dump Symbol Table
    • Dump All Thread Contexts
    • Create Crash Dump File

    [*]Click on OK

    [*]Now replicate the error *note: do not close the error or MBAM*.

    [*]Once that's done, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft and right-click on the Dr Watson folder and choose Copy

    [*]Close the explorer window and right-click on your desktop and select Paste

    [*]Right-click on the Dr Watson folder which you should now see on your desktop and hover your mouse over Send To and select Compressed (zipped) Folder

    [*]Upload the Dr Watson.zip file you just created to RapidShare by clicking on the Upload File button on that page and browsing to the Dr Watson.zip file and selecting it

    [*]Once the upload completes you'll be given a link for the download, please copy and paste that link into your next reply

Hello and good day Piet12,

Can you start MBAM while in Safe mode?

**TO START YOUR COMPUTER IN SAFE MODE**

Restart your computer.

After turning on your computer during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, start pressing the F8 key.

In some systems, this may be the F5 key.

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode with Networking and press 'Enter'.

Please try to run MBAM normally in safe mode and please let me know whether you can or cannot.

Hello Piet12,

The Previous dump file did not contain data that we could use. So I request another dump file, this time a little different:

Replicate the Crash, and then do the BELOW Directions. Do not close any of the dialog boxes (MBAM or the Windows Error)

To create a userdump on Windows XP/2003, please do the following:

You must first reproduce the issue and get the software to pop up with an error message. You must not close the error message. Instead, leave it open until you have created the userdump.

1. Download and extract the Microsoft Userdump Utility

userdump001-300x183.png

2. After the utility is installed, identify the PID (Process ID) of the process of which you need to create the userdump:

* Open Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del);

* Go to the Processes tab;

* Go to View -> Select Columns:

userdump003-300x384.png

* Check PID (Process Identifier):

userdump004-300x384.png

* Next to the Image Name, you will see PID:

userdump005-300x384.png

The PID is MBAM.exe

3. Once you have noted down the PID of the process, open Windows Command Line (Start-Run -> cmd) and navigate to the userdump.exe file by issuing the following command:

Windows 32 bit: cd /d C:\kktools\userdump8.1\x86

Windows 64 bit: cd /d C:\kktools\userdump8.1\x64

4. Then issue the following command:

Userdump xxxx

where xxxx is the PID that you have noted down previously.

In the C:\kktools\userdump8.1\xxx folder, you will see a PROCCESSNAME.dmp. For example, Agent.dmp

5. ZIP the dump file;

6. Upload the dump file to RapidShare and post the link in your response Please.

Thank you!

Piet12,

Could you please check the file-size of your rules.ref file. It should be located within the directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • You may need to enable hidden folder view, When you open my computer click Tools->Folder Options. Under the View Tab where it says: Hidden files and folders: Click the radio button to 'Show hidden files and folders'. Click 'Apply' then 'OK'.

After you see the file-size of the rules.ref, please delete the file.

Restart MBAM. Let me know if that works and what the size of the file you have.

Thank you!
