  1. Great input! Will factor this into the future, either rebuilding or if bestbuy is able to clean it up- Will let you know how it goes and thanks again for all the input! zs
  2. Will do, Kevin thanks so much for all the input-Taking it to Best Buy and hoping they can tell us what this was and how not to repeat it- Also, I have a question about next steps- I am pretty sure that this virus is a hang on from a crash I had last year- The symptoms are exactly alike- !. I was running AVG on the first crash- It behaved just like this, I saved off the files, and built an entirely new computer after we gave up. 2. I switched to Avast and checked everything before I moved files- I also searched with Malware bytes, and Ccleaner and all was well- 3. This is a dedicated audio production computer so I have to download lots of drivers from music software vendors, but otherwise, this computer is kept as safe as possible. So it seems most likely that this monster lives somewhere in those files and I'm afraid it will come back- So here are 2 questions- 1. How can I scan those files and find this thing? 2. How can I back up in such a way that recovery is possible (I do restore points constantly and they all were deleted)- Thanks again! ZS
  3. I'll keep messing with this tonight, but I think the battle is over and will take it in tomorrow- But will let you know if I have any break throughs- Thanks again fro all the help- Sorry this was a tough one- It's a shame that this monster will get nuked without us ever knowing what it was- Thanks again for all the ideas- Kasperski seemed really close to doing it! m
  4. No, I can only keep the computer running when Kaspersky is running- At least that is what I think- I will try your links, but dont think anything has changed- That brings something up- Can I run files from Kaspersky? I'm sure it's not a full os, but is it enough to let me download one of these apps and run it? Seems worth trying while I'm here
  5. Weird news- Got Kaspersky to see C this time and ran a full report! Bad news is that it didnt find any viruses- But look at the report- Its got lots of unreadable files- Would it make sense to nuke them?
  6. ok, that worked- Got a report- attached-Does it tell us anything? Considering Kasperian ran all day fine, I have posted on their site hoping someone can figure out how to get it to see drive c- FRST.txt
  7. ok, that seemed to work- Fbar ran- Here's the report FRST.txt
  8. ok, I understand K better and think I can see what is going on- The ss drive is listed- But it shows no files! I guess they are hidden to K? The data is still there- K can tell how much is on disks, it just says there are no files- Any ideas?
  9. ok, K didnt find any threats, but I dont think it is seeing my ss drive- The only dives one the desktop or avaiable via file management are the DVD and the conventional spinning drive- Also, when I ran the windows unlocker, it only looked like about half of the commands were run- Again, my bet is that it isnt mapped to the bad drive and open to ideas- thanks again!
  10. ok, have some good news- K loaded and ran, but there was no option for for windows unlocker on the menu- I see that I might be able to run from terminal mode, but first I am running the scan- Looks like the first time we will be able to get a meaningful report, so figured we might as well try before I go look for the unlocker- nice to see something other than bios on the screen again:)
  11. Alright buddy- Let's give it a try- Much thanks and will report back as soon as I get it done- zs
  12. Kevin, I hate to say, I think it is over- Computer now goes straight to bios and doesn't run when I leave the screen- End of game, right?
  13. Thanks Kevin, I'm starting to think it's time to take it to the shop, but let's give it one last try- As far as 64 bit recovery disk, yes the other machine is 32 bit, so I had a friend make a 64 bit on his system- No idea why it didn't work- Ok,trying FRST, but seem to have hit a snag- Advanced boot options gives me these options- repair you computer safe mode dafe mode with net safemode with comand enable boot loogging enable low res vid last knowwn good config dor serrvices restore debug mode disable automatic restart desable driver signature start wind normally when I chose repair your computer I get the following 1. Insert windows intal disk 2. chose lang 3. click repair you computer if you dont hvae this disk.... status:oxcxooooooe info the boot section failed because a required device is inaceessible It says enter=continue, but nothing happens when I hit enter. Thanks again for your efforts- zs
  14. Kevin- I made the disk and ran it, however Systems Recovery Options came up with a window that said that This version of the systems recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows that you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disk that is compatible with this version of windows- It's Win7 64 bit, not sure where else to do?
