Offline database update

Normally you would NOT need to use it. It is best to start MBAM and go to the UPDATE tab and update the program.

This offline is typically used for copying the program from like a USB stick or CD over to a computer that does not have Internet connection possibly due to an infection or other reason.

Normal users though would not use this file as it is not as up to date as the one supplied for the internal updating mechanism.

If you are interested in updating the database without an Internet connection please visit here. Please use this as a last resort. This link is not updated as often as the online database is.

Does the installer for the database support the /SILENT switch?

Also, is it possible to copy updated files from an existing MBAM installation?

Say I have it installed on my PC, and run the updater... are there files I can copy to a flash drive and copy back after initial installation is complete, so it's up-to-date as soon as it's installed?

Thanks for any help you can offer here!

Hi Gabe,

It's indeed possible to copy the latest definitions file to a USB stick or cd-r for transport to more computers without an internet connection. I routinely do this myself. ;)

cd "Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"

Inside is the rules.ref file. Copy it and the latest installer from the site to a usb stick. Install to the target PC as you normally would. Then copy the rules.ref file from USB stick to above location, overwriting the one already present.

If I can be of any further assistance, just ask...

Thank you SO much! It never occurs to me to look in that location. hehe

I was looking in c:\Program Files\... downloading the update, then checking the modified date, and nothing was changing except the main .exe files and the stuff in the Language folder. I even tried copying the whole directory to the flash drive, and overwriting everything after an install, but it still wasn't updated. Now I know why.
