Malware not recognized

Recommended Posts

In Firefox 3.6.13, when intending to open a website, an empty page with the words in the upper right hand corner "skip this screen" would come up. Reloading the same page would make disappear this message. My research resulted in the fact that this was caused by a malignous software called "Contextual Tool Yourprofitclub" that installed itself without my consent. De-installing this program (one has to reconfirm a code - see attachment) solved the problem with the nagging screen.

I had done a complete scan before with Malwarebytes Antimalware before, it however didn't report any anomaly. Why does Malwarebytes Antimalware not recognize this malware? Did confirming the code probably leave some traces on my system?post-71308-0-98430200-1299072226.jpg

My first post was obviously overwritten by the screen shot that I uploaded. Here comes the contents of my contribution one more time:

Hello and welcome, h20:

Sorry to hear that your computer may be infected.

It sounds like you could use some help from the malware experts.

Alas, we do not work on malware removal in this particular general sub-forum.

Free, expert assistance can be found at the malware removal-HJT forum.

Instructions on how to proceed are posted in the 2nd Important Topic pinned at the top of this forum: "I'm Infected - What Do I Do Now?".

Here's how to get started:

1. First, please go to THIS PAGE, print out, read and follow as many instructions as you can, skipping any you are unable to complete.

2. Then, please describe your computer's symptoms as best you can and post the requested logs by starting a new thread at the Malware Removal-HJT forum .

One of the authorized, trained experts will then assist you as soon as possible for one-on-one malware detection and removal.

When you post, please be sure to select Track This Topic & choose one of the email options, so that you will be notified when someone responds; allow 24-48 hours before bumping your thread.

Other Support Options:

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you may wish to start a support ticket by contacting support at: support@malwarebytes.org; or

Premium, fee-based support options are available here.

Also, please use the "Add Reply" button when replying here & at the other boards, so that it will be easier for everyone to follow the thread.

I hope this gets you started on cleaning up your system,

daledoc1

Hi daledoc, want a bone? :) This contribution was very obviously written by a computer, not by a human. Why?, you might think. Simple answer: Because it's not answering my question. Here is my question again: Why does Malwarebytes Antimalware not recognize "Contextual Tool Yourprofitclub". Let's see what chances I have this time to get an answer.

Hello, h20:

No, it was not written by a computer.

Moreover, your large screenshot covers the text in both your posts, making it impossible to read.

That said, if you think you have a new malware threat that MBAM is not picking up, then the better place to post would be here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=51

or perhaps here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=30

These are where the MBAM engineers can investigate your suspected malware.

This particular general forum is for issues installing/running MBAM program, not for malware diagnostics or sample submission.

Best regards,

daledoc1

PS Most of us here are volunteers who try our best to help others. Sorry if my response was insufficient for you.

Hi daledoc, I hope I didn't offend you - your post seemed as it had been written for another question before.

Sorry for not posting in the right forum at first hand. I have already re-posted my question in the hopefully correct section.

...and I agree, the by far too big screen shot made it almost impossible to read my first post.

BTW: Is there a way to edit an already posted contribution? I would have liked to add these lines in the above contribution.

@ h2o:

No offense taken.

Yes, many of us do use pre-prepared snippets to save time for common issues; these are pretty much standard verbiage at the suggestion of the MBAM folks.

That said, I write mine myself, and I always edit mine for the individual poster, when needed.

As you suggested that you might have malware traces on your system, I referred you to that particular forum (and the other options), per Standard Operating Procedure here.

As far as new threats not yet in the MBAM database, again, that needs to be addressed at the correct forum, as well.

(Yes, there are a lot of sub-forums here and it's easy to get lost at first.)

As far as editing posts, I think one needs to have a minimum number of posts before that feature becomes available; not sure what the number is.

I'm sure that one of the malware experts will help you check and clean your system, and that the MBAM engineers will look into the new threat, if needed.

Best regards,

daledoc1
