  1. I realize the inability to upload pix on FB is due to my not having Internet Explorer on my computer now (except as a zip file and when that's opened it is "Ask" not IE). Tried to download IE 8, but can't. Also strange System Restore didn't restore IE. So never mind, this is one worn out computer -- in a month, a friend is giving me her laptop PC with MS 7 (vs. XP which I have now). She knows about computers so can help me transferring stuff from this desktop to the laptop.
  2. I solved the missing Spider Solitaire and a few other big issues by doing a System Restore. HOWEVER, now when I go on FB and click on upload photo, instead of the white box with "browse" next to it, there's just the box with nothing to click on --- aaargh. Can't upload pix. Bizarre! I have no idea what to do, unless I should do another System Restore. Any ideas greatly appreciated
  3. Yes, I went right away to the vastly overrated Google and nada. But thank you and Exile for the excellent suggestions.
  4. Hi Exile -- Great -- thanks very much. As I said to Seagull, this game keeps me from going bonkers when on hold on the phone with various companies.
  5. Thanks Seagull -- I probably do, will check. Thanks, feel a bit silly asking for help on this, but I use Spider Solitaire when I'm waiting on the phone (no speaker phone) to keep from going NUTZ.
  6. In trying to help my Dell run better I used Dell's System Maintenance and probably authorized removal of things I wasn't using often. BUT I did use Spider Solitaire often. Now Spider Solitaire is gone, removed. Even though Spider is still there. I tried accessing it under all programs, but not there. Tried going to Dell Community (don't have bucks for Dell Tech support), but could not for the life of me get my user name, ooof. Anyway long story short -- anyone know how to reinstall the DELL version of Spider Solitaire. Thank you all so much denise
  7. P.S. I think the McAffee is free as I pay a small amt. monthly ($6.99) for AOL.
  8. Thanks again for the advice. Will see if she's clued into this stuff. I think she is. What do you think of earthlink or gmail. Any pro's or con's on these two. I called AOL and the tech guy advised I get virus protection (like McAfee). When I have $$$, Norton Internet Security along with the Malwarebytes free program I have sounds good. ??? Can you have several programs running at the same time that are anti virus, anti bad stuff? Why do you like Hot Mail? Anyhew, thanks yet again. deebeee
  9. Hey there, Will try. A friend who is very computer savy is coming over in a week. She also has an extra computer (can you believe that?). Guess what just happened. Someone must have hacked into my AOL account and used my address book to send these "links" to everyone in there. OMG. I sent warnings to them all, but zheesh. Changed my password and security question. Anything else I should do. I know most don't like AOL, but Yahoo confuses me. Anyhow, should post this separately I know. Thanks a lot for all the help. deebeee
  10. Thanks but I'm ill with CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency) so haven't the strength or concentration to take the tower apart or whatever. Does anyone know of someone in Manhattan, New York or nearby who for a fee could come here and help me. I don't have enough money for a new computer. New Problem: NOW AOL is not letting emails get through. Have to call them, but fairly sure it's computer issue. Nothing in spam file. Missing important emails. Very discouraged, sick and tired (literally). Thanks so much. Sigh.
  11. Thanks!! When I'm feeling a bit better (down with something), will check this out. Is this something you install or .... I'll probably understand when I pull up the link. Thanks again deebeee
  12. Hi there, Thanks for all your help. Sick today, will give you Service Tag # later today or tomorrow. You're very kind to help. deebeee
  13. I would highly suggest you do some updating.... You're probably experiencing a slow down because you're getting limited by hardware. A RAM upgrade would be extremely beneficial as CWB said. At this point the solution to your problem is to do a hardware upgrade. You could also maybe look into getting a new computer. Also, you should be able to check your aol email from anywhere in any browser. http://webmail.aol.com should work fine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks so much. Yes I'm sure it's a case of not enough memory. 1) Can I replace old Ram with new Ram myself? Is it in the tower? Problem is that I don't know max. Ram my computer would support. Any place to get that info? 2) Any point in installing new HD? OR do these changes add up to a moderately priced new computer? 3) As a last ditch effort (have very little $$$ now), would restore help? Many thanks, oh to be deebeeeTrump haha.
  14. "in the long run , it may be better to copy off all your data/files and do a full wipe and re-install of your OS and all the programs (i noticed that you have old versions of some programs on your machine , avg is up to the "2012" flavor now) . but like you said ... "uuuggghhh" ... a full "system restore" that takes the machine back to "factory fresh" is indeed a last resort as it is very intensive/time consuming ... not a pleasant task by any stretch of the imagination ." Thanks for all your help. How does someone do a full wipe and re-install of the OS and all the programs? I have an old version of AOL because it works better for me, allows me to have 2 of the site up at the same time, vs. toggling which drives me nuts. There is "quick" restore which I've done several times and is not hard at all. JUST the backing up process is a pain. Would that take care of re-installing the OS? Duh, don't know. Thanks
  15. How would Fire Fox eliminate that annoying and computer slowing script box??? I looked at MSN Hot Mail and it's beyond confusing. Kept sending an email to my aol acct - never arrived. Unlike AOL, you can't simply insert a photo into the body of the email. I do not like MSN Hot Mail. I am not interested if companies keep tabs on little ole boring me, so that is not an issue for me. Google does that too in spades. Computer specs: Dell Dimension DE 051, 2.53 GHz, 256 MB of RAM, MS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3, IE6, AOL 9. 0, Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5, AVG Free 9.0, MBAM ABBY Fine Reader 6.0 Sprint, Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX, Adobe Reader 9.2, Quick Time, Real Player Basic, Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem -- -- So let me know how you think upgrading my existing Mozilla Firefox will relate to removing the computer slowing script box? Still don't get it. Thanks
