No more automatic database updates?

Recommended Posts

Hi eniliad,

:welcome:

The latest version of MBAM Premium should be able to update automaticly. So it probably a bug, an unactivate license or somehow the scheduled update got lost along the way.

Could you check two things:

1. in 'my account' (upper right in the dashboard), does it behind 'state' say 'licensed'?

2. in settings->automated scheduling, do you have any scheduled updates?

I've attached two screenshots which may help you with finding the two things I mentioned above. (My scheduler settings are probably not what is recommended.)

If you have any questions, please post & ask.

yeah, i found mine isn't auto updating the database either. I get the red triangle in the system tray icon. Mine is licenced and in automatic scheduling I choose to only have one itrem - check for updates. The frequency is repeat once per day and run within an hour from last miss. The select box for check for updates wasn't ticked however. So I've now ticked it. I will see if that is wahat was stopping it from updateing.

@DrStrange:

Could you check whether your computer is turned on and has internet access when the update is supposed to run?

If this doesn't help, please start you own topic. With two people with different computers, different settings etcetera in one topic can get confusing for the forum helpers.

@ eniliad and @ Dr. Strange:

In addition to Durew's excellent advice to make sure you have actually scheduled any update checks, please be sure to reboot your system at least once.

Then, you might want to please check your system date and time.
There have been a few reports of MBAM update problems due to this system problem - the time/date were wrong.
(I have seen reports of this many times with other security products, such as anti-virus applications.)

Another easy thing to check :

Note: Please make sure that if your AV and/or firewall has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Having said that, yes, @ Dr. Strange, please do start your own, separate post if you are still having problems.

Thanks,

I put my database updates on "real time" & have it set for every 3-5 minutes which doesnt affect my computer in anyway but all it does is check for updates every 3-5 minutes & it updates just fine but id suggest following daledocs post if you would like to do do that/try that..

@RonnieM:

Thank you for that information.

However, as both users are at this time unable to update, the first step is determine the cause of the problem.

Then, when it is resolved, the next step will be to assist the users with configuring their update settings.

For some users, realtime updates every 3-5 minutes will be impractical, even as it is generally unnecessary.

(Updates are released -- on average -- 10-12 times per day. Checking for updates every 3 minutes = 480 update checks per day, when only 10-12 of them will actually have an available update. That puts a load on the update servers and it may not be practical for all users on all systems, e.g those with limited bandwidth.  That is why hourly checks are suggested and generally quite sufficient.  It also provides a "cushion" in the event of the extremely rare occurrence of a "bad" update.)

As such it would be a good idea to please wait for the OP to post back with more data and for Dr. Strange to start a separate post before providing your suggestions for your customized settings.

Thank you,

In version 2.0, the user (you) must set the uodate interval.  It's in SETTINGS, but in Automated Scheduling not Update Settings.  It's now considered an automated task, I s'pose. Yeah, should have been in Update Settings.  I've set mine for 2 hours, which seems to be working well.

Hello again,

I waited a few days to see if it would happen again; it seemed to be working alright for a while. However, last night, it did it again; in fact, the option to actually perform the update was grayed out and I had to reset the program to do it. I do indeed have it scheduled to check for updates... once per hour.

In v2 : The automatic updates have a delay of -/+ 15 mins to help balance server load. So for example, if you set your update on reboot, it would happen within those 15 mins after the reboot.

It wasn't the case like this in v1.75 (for me atleast) for the delay to happen.

Actually, automatic, non-realtime, scheduled update checks for 1.75 were also randomized. ;)

However, since the OP reports that the option is not even available to him, then randomization doesn't appear to be the issue.

Thanks, though.

@eniliad:

Sorry you are still having issues with scheduled updates for 2.0.

As there have been a lot of different folks replying to the thread here, it might be good idea to start fresh.

First, try a reboot or two (if not already done).

If still a "no go", please follow the directions exactly as shown here:
MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

If that does not correct it, then please read the following and post back the requested logs as attachments to your next reply:
Diagnostic Logs

The staff and experts will review them in order to have a better idea of what's going on with your system.

Thanks!

  • 5 months later...

I just notices something because I am not getting any updates either. Just notices that the database is out of date and that I need to "Fix it Now". Clicking the Fix It button updates the database. I did have check for updates in schedulling, but I did notice that each operation that you schedule has a checkbox next to it to "Select". Mine did not have checks in the boxes. I presume these checks are to enable the listed task and if they are not checked, then how can one expect them to run?

Just noticed it now so not sure this is the answer but it makes sense and I am trying it now. I would suggest others do the same. Good night all! <_<

Hello and :welcome: , @Ohmster:

Actually that column with the "Select" heading is only there if the user wants to enable *removing* a task.
IOW, there will not be a check-mark in that column automatically, as it has nothing to do with the task actually running as scheduled.

It is there for the user to manually enable removing a task.
There is no reason to place a check-mark in the "Select" column UNLESS one wishes to remove a task.
It is not recommended to remove the daily scheduled Threat scan or the hourly scheduled update checks -- they are the default settings for a reason.

Having said that, if your MBAM Premium is NOT updating automatically, then that is not normal behavior. :excl:

As this is an OLD thread, based on an OLD version of MBAM 2.x, it would be much easier for us to help you in your own new, separate topic.
Please start a NEW, SEPARATE topic using this clickable cjfj.png button. :)
The staff and experts will be able to more easily provide both you and the OP with individual help to get you both up and running.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,
