Great that looks promising.  Please shut down the computer for a couple minutes.

Then unplug the power from your router or modem for a few minutes.  Then plug the power back in for the router or modem and wait a minute and then turn the computer back on again and let me know how things are working now and what issues you're still having please.

Today I am at an RV park therefore on their wifi and not able to do as you ask.

Tomorrow I'll be at my winter home and be plugging into a different router than the one used all this summer which I assume will be the same as doing what you asked?.

Yes, I've been using somebody elses wifi all week as I've been slowly driving from Washington State to California in my RV.

 

Everything seems to run okay. The redirect problem has been gone for a number of days. Only problem is clicking the favorites icon in IE justs sets the spinner spinning until it loads about five minutes later. When it does load the favorite places show up as multiple copies of the links. One shows up as about 100 copies of the same link.

 

In researching IE I have learned that IE is a part of windows. Maybe if I update from win 7 to win 8 I'll end up with a new working copy of IE. What do you think?

No, updating would not help such an issue.  I'm not a fan of upgrades as it brings the bad with it.  Whenever possible I always recommend backing up the data and doing a clean from scratch install.

 

So let me have you do the following then.

 

Click on START and type in CMD.EXE and when it shows on the menu right click over it and choose "Run as administrator"

Then in that DOS console type the following exactly.

 

CD %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

DIR /A /S >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\MyFavorites.txt

 

If the Favorites is an issue as you think then this should tell us for sure. 

It will create a file on your desktop named MyFavorites.txt  please ATTACH that file on your next reply by clicking on the More Reply Options button as the file will be too big to just post directly here.

No, there is an ATTACH button that you need to click that says:  "Attach This File" after you've Browsed to the file and selected it.

Here is what you should see.  You would just click the Add Reply button after adding a file.

You'd still need to type something as well since it won't allow a blank post with just an attachment.

Please try downloading and using Firefox 22.0 at least temporarily.

Don't get the newer version of Firefox for now.  I think what you might be experiencing is an issue with mixed content and Firefox 2.0 will allow it by default and the newer version of Firefox will block it by default.

Then login to the site using Firefox 22.0 and see if you can now upload the text file.

It is interesting to note that Firefox offered to download my favs from IE where Opera did not. When opening the FF favorites folder the links all appear by the hundreds of copies.

 

Later today I'll be arriving at my winter home and will need to aquire an internet connection. I mention this because I undersand if this topic remains unused for three days it will be closed. Please don't close this topic if you don't hear from me as I'll be waiting for the wife to be activated.

Using search I found them, selected all then selected delete, this got me the message that there are 9,958 of them and that deleting them could be harmfull to my computer. Obviously there are too many to delete one at a time in the IE favorites window. What do you suggest?
