  1. After adding the three process names to the exclusion list, and then updating MalwareBytes ... Next step should be "then enable the protection module" which I do not want to do so then went for a reboot - Left the computer for a while to let MSSE check itself and the current setup out and it once again turned orange with the warning ... however .... ^^ This has solved the problem. So much for MSSE updating itself - The auto-definition updates have been happening but obviously it has got a little behind the times with updating itself. I also noticed that when given a warning that it was out of date for a scan, leaving the radio button checked just to do a Quick scan (instead of the Full scan) would actually initiate a Full scan. The new version just installed behaves as expected now. Thank you both for the suggestions.
  2. Hi guys, just been doing a bit of scouting around for a new problem I am experiencing with Microsoft Security Essentials. Reference this topic - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_scanning/computer-potentially-unprotected-notice-question/2050a5f1-0435-464c-9695-2fbe9a560caa?page=1 I do not have the paid for version of MBAM installed - Prefer to run it non-resident with MSSE as my frontline resident scanner. But since a recent update to MBAM (which includes a free trial of the full version) MSSE is now permanently Orange and warning "Computer Status - Potentially Un-Protected" You havent run a scan on your computer for a while. Today, yesterday, day before.... twice in one day (today) - Still getting the warning. In the topic linked above the MSSE crowd are associating the problem with the full version of MBAM And as mentioned this problem has only started since MBAMs update including the free trial of the full version - Which I have not enabled. Any ideas?
  3. Hmm, code boxes dont expand/collapse either, oh well.
  4. Well, leap of faith, I went with the experienced knowledge and deferred my reservations..... Downloaded v1.51 of Gamebooster (having previously deleted all trace of 1.5) Checked the installer with MSSE and MBam, clear Installed, did not allow to auto-run, checked installation folder with both above again... Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4404 Windows 6.1.7600 Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385 07/08/2010 22:12:09 mbam-log-2010-08-07 (22-12-09).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 54 Time elapsed: 3 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) So it seems it was a false positive - Well at least I got one thing right, the forum area Thanks nosirrah, faith restored in gamebooster.
  5. In which case I will not be re-installing any version of it, thank you. I guess the subject may be being looked into a bit more at the moment. Time will tell, and considering it could leave your system wide open for exploit best to avoid at the moment I think, it would not be the first time someone has gained user trust then by degrees introduced extra features.
  6. Thank you - No further questions, I am not going to bug anyone with further requests if it has already been made, mbam programmers are doing a brilliant job of making this a good cure for any ills I have found so far. When they are ready or deem it more of a necessity I am sure they will implement it.
  7. Maybe my question was not so clear - By "update the utility" I meant do you wish me to update gamebooster to the newer 1.51 version, or did you in fact mean update malwarebytes (which as noted above was updated prior to the scan finding the problem)
  8. Question regarding scanning zips/rars/7zip - When scanned via the context menu (right click archive to scan with malwarebytes), the results always show only 1 file scanned, whereas within the archive there are potentially thousands of files. The report would indicate that the whole archive has been scanned (1 file), and that no decompression takes place to scan all the individual files within the archive - Is this in-correct?
  9. Apologies for the spoiler, noob forum user I think I should have used a code box instead of spoiler and cannot modify the post.
  10. I did an update of mbam before the scan this morning, do you mean update the utility mbam log....
  11. Hi just had mbam recognised the systray for this utility..... http://download.cnet.com/Game-Booster/3000...4-10913645.html as malware, previously not found by mbam I have un-installed and cleaned out the offending article. This utility is getting very popular in gaming circles, but considering what it does if the systray is malware after it has shut down a load of essential services and your resident virus protection... it pretty much has free reign to do whatever it wants. A newer version 1.51 has been released since I installed it (so not tested here, having just found the 1.5 version to be a potential threat I trust mbam more than this utility) False positive or good find?
