Automatic update not updating PRO version

Sorry to hear you are having issues updating Malwarebytes PRO via scheduled updates. In order to help you, the staff will need to review a few logs.

 

>> I assume MBAM PRO was installed/configured via a Windows user account with Admin rights, not a limited user?

>> Also FYI scheduled UPDATES take place within a window +/- 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

>> Also, although not typically necessary, did you set mutual exclusions between Avast! and MBAM?

Please follow the instructions below and post back with the following logs as attachments to your next reply:

  • Checkresults.txt from mbam-check
  • A couple of protection logs, if you have them
  • DDS.txt from DDS
  • Attach.txt from DDS

These will provide the MBAM staff with a bit of information that will help them to pinpoint the cause and the solution for you.

Step 1 -- Create an mbam-check log:

Download mbam-check.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop.
Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file.
Please attach to your next reply the CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop.

Then, if you can, please also upload your 3 most recent Protection module logs:

In Windows XP, these logs are located in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs
In Windows Vista/7/8, these logs are located in: C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs



Step 2 -- Run DDS and create 2 logs:

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
dds.scr
dds.com


Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once it is downloaded, you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please attach both of the following logs to your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
    --->You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Hi Daledoc.

thanks so much for looking into this.  I did look at those files and it actually seems like it is updating. I tried to change it to realtime earlier this morning to see if it would update.  and there are a series of 1 minute updates. I guess it was updating every minute lol!  It didn't show a pop up so I figured it wasn't working.  

 

I think when I had it set to daily that the pc was never on during the update time so I kept getting warnings that the database was 3 days out of date.

 

Can you confirm that its working?

If interested you can also remove and setup schedules from the command line.

 

 

 

Resetting the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware schedules from the command line.
 
There is a 15 minute randomized delay in the scheduler for MBAM updates so + or - 15 minutes is normal for updates with the scheduler. Scans will run at the time set for though.

From an elevated admin command prompt please do the following.
How to Open an Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7

Please type the following and press the Enter key at the end of the line.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

On Windows XP and Windows 7 x86
CD "%ProgramFiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"

On Windows 7 x64
CD "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"

Please type the following and press the Enter key at the end of each line. There will not be any feedback normally unless you type it wrong.


mbam.exe /unschedule /all
mbam.exe /schedule /update /silent /hourly /every 4 /starting 10/04/2013 16:15:00 /recover 2
mbam.exe /schedule /scan -quick -log -silent -remove -reboot /silent /daily /every 1 /starting 10/04/2013 17:30:00 /recover 23

Now open the MBAM program and go to the Protection tab and click on the Scheduler button
If completed correctly it should look very similar to the image below.

P.S. Just to add -- If you don't use AdvancedSetup's method of scheduling via command prompt, it's still a good idea to schedule updates more often than once daily.  MBAM PRO specializes in zero-hour and zero-day threats missed by the standard AVs. The database is updated 10 or more times a day.  So, to stay abreast of emerging threats, a more frequent update schedule -- such as that suggested by AdvancedSetup -- is a good idea.  Many of us here use hourly updates and a daily quick scan.
