Version 2 is absolutely horrible!

Recommended Posts

Why would you upgrade something that worked flawlessly for years?  I am very disappointed.  I have the Pro (now Premium) version.  I have purchased licenses for all of my customers because it was such a great program....now i am never going to reccomend this again.

The Full Scan used to take about 3 hours on my machine, now it takes 18 hours?  Theres no reason for it....

The updater doesnt update properly, I still get the popups that it needs upgrading....

The program freezes constantly, and I have a Win 7 64 Bit, 16GB of RAM machine.  I am a computer technician who has over 25 years in computer tech support and repair.  This is unacceptable

Please bring back the old GUI which worked with absolutely no issues!

First of all you should never need to do a full system scan it's not necessary the threat scan is what's recommended, second can you post your system specs and any other details and then be patient till a support teams finds your post.

did you read through this guide yet? so you can adjust settings to your liking.

Daman....

Ive always done a full scan.  If i dont need to do one, then it should not be an option.  I do a full scan once a week, and do the quick scan and flash scan (as they used to be called) once a day.  Its on an automatic schedule.

I did post my specs...i dont know what other specs would be relevant for this conversation.

I only posted once, so telling me to be patient does not really make any sense

I dont need to read a guide.  ive been in the business for 25 years and been using malwarebytes since the beginning.  I know how to change things, but the program is a resource hog, the scans take 5 times longer, and overall just a poor user experience.

Hello and :welcome:

Some folks have experience increase scan times when they upgraded from version 1.75 to the new 2.0 version. Perhaps trying a Clean Install as mentioned HERE will help, make sure you have your registration info before you run the tool.

Also doing a quick scan as your doing is what is recommended. Doing a full scan is up to you and you can do them once a week or once a month is fine, whatever makes you feel safe. Some folks just don't want to do any wear and tear on their hard drives. Being that your a tech for 25 years you should know what I am talking about....

The new version of Malwarebytes has more features (as you may have noticed) and therefore is scanning more locations and files, this could amount to your scan times taking longer.  Some of the options that will increase the scan times for example is if you enable rootkit scanning or scanning archives.

As for reading the manual, well that's up to you, I have also been in the field for many years, longer than you perhaps, I myself do read through the manuals and educate myself as to the changes made with the programs. I need to know what those changes are and how its going to impact my network.  Not saying your wrong for not reading them, I know lots of my colleges that wont read the also. Different strokes for different folks.

Anywho, try the clean install procedures and see if that improves your scan times any...

THere is nothing wrong with my system.  It only started doing this with 2.0

Its the software, not my machine....guaranteed

I have two of the same PC's as you but 8G or ram and I am not experiencing your issue, please supply the logs as it will show what's going on.

Scan Times vary due to many factors some of which are listed below.

Size of disk

Disk type

Disk speed

Disk caching

CPU speed

Controller type and speed

Operating System used

Amount of files

Amount of folders

Amount of archived files such as zip, rar, sfx, etc.

Rootkit scan or not

PUM/PUP scans

Other security programs running at the same time that may potentially be monitoring all file accesses by any other process.

Drive integrity - if a drive is failing it can take a long time to ignore and bypass sectors on a disk or simply fail period and hang the scan.

Other ongoing disk I/O processes

System being infected can also affect speed of scans

Also note that changes in the MBAM database can also cause scan times to increase or decrease, so that's another factor to consider.

As mentioned => HERE <=

Do you have any encryption software installed on this computer, as MBAM 2.0 is not compatible with most encryption software?

They are offering you assistance.  Swallow your pride and do as they ask.  A little patience never hurt anyone.  I have been in the business for more than 20 years but I still required assistance with their software.  This is what they specialize in.  Trust me when I say they know what they are doing.  I deal with people like you every day and they think just because they've "been in the business" for "X" amount of years, they have no need to listen.

Maybe it is their MBAM 2.0 software or maybe it's something with your computer causing the issue.  You'll never find out if you fight them all the way on this.

Swallow your pride and let them assist. <_<

That's not entirely true.  It should be done once, to get a baseline, and then it doesn't have to be done unless there is a specific reason or issue.
